1.0 Focus Ecoboost
What an amazing little engine. Petrol is far from dead
It'll be interesting to see what other manufacturers will be offering

Altho yes it should mean theres scope for the 1.6 ecoboost......which we'll see in the fiesta ST soon

Properly impressive, whats impressive is the roadtest saying its perky and good to drive too.

It's a shame that manufacturers still have to conform to nonsense emission laws, if they were allowed to design engines as they could, they would be powerful & cleaner & more efficient than they are now!
Great bit of engineering though, wonder if it will be as tricky to drive as the Ford Diesels?!

Hopeing I can get one of these next year or the year after once the initial depreciation has dropped off them. Would like the 125 Zetec.
I think it really is a perfect engine. It will sound nice (I imagine it will be very V6ish), it will have good tuning potential and be good on fuel.
Only thing that worries me is long term. My current 406 has done 120k and the engine still drives and pulls like new. What are these little 1.0T going to be like after 120k and 10 years?
Or will we be going back to the days of 100k engine overhauls?
Bailes.

Looks like a winner on many levels , and with the same tec on larger cc models should be good , think the f1 engines of the 80s showed that cc is not allways a main factor of power .
Im not sure I follow? How would relaxing the emmisions laws make manufacturers able to make cleaner, more efficient engines?

Only problem with it I see is, these engines are so far tuned from factory to be as little as possible with as much power as possible, so that if anbody wants to further modify them, they're going to struggle to get much more power out of them reliably.
on the other hand, it may however not be a problem as you may only buy one for economy anyway!

Impressive figures from a modern, economical 1000cc engine... but don't think I'd be happy spending the cash on one for a long term option or buying a used example a few years down the line. Might be an old skool way of thought, but a 1.0 engine (turbo'd or not) pulling around a ~1300kg car for 50, 60, 70k miles will take it's toll quicker than an equivalent larger capacity engine would over the same distance.
