Default PS 3 - discs not spinning

Youngest has one of these and the other day it stopped loading games - the disc goes in as normal but doesn't seem to spin up.

It's out of warranty so I don't mind opening it up, but is this a simple drive to replace or could it be something else?

It's generally a dead laser, if it doesnt read that a disk has gone in it wont spin up..

hmm sounds like mine not long ago.. found out that my 4yr old put a miniSD card in the slot so stopped the cd from spinning, took a while to get to it but got the lil fkr out.. had to strip the console apart then take the cd rom out and half strip that..
but all working now!

If you buy a drive make sure you buy one that came from the same gig console, some had differant drives. Also make your you keep the little green board thats attached to your drive too!

just remove the drive and take it apart, find out what laser you have, more than likely a twin type and get a new one off ebay and fit it, easy to do.
