My monitor randomly turns on and off, the actual screen goes blank but the moniter still has power

The cable seems ok but I don't have a spare to see if that's the problem so is there something else that could be happening?

Don't really want to shell out for a new moniter if it's the computer that's gone wrong but what can I do to eliminate the suspects when I don't actually have a moniter to view?

Ok, changed the wires and it's still the same

 

I would suspect a faulty monitor, either that or you have a graphics card problem etc with the PC.

I presume it's a TFT monitor?

There isn't a lot of trouble shooting you can do to be honest, without a known good working monitor.

when mine did this it was the graphix card

 

Further investigation seems to point to the mrs pushing the computer back against the wall as the bit the moniter wire screws into is bent

 

if it's the grpahics card, what options do i have?

as in a simple replacement or can i upgrade (is it really worth it when a second hand card is only £30? )
