Because they can, and same with anything motoring, they sneak price increases in all the time.

And us the complacent public let it happen !!

Fair point lol

But pre 73 would rust a little worse as they are older, but free road tax and no emissions tests would make ownership that little bit nicer.

only thing might happen, is if the government seen an increase of pre 73 cars on the road, they'd likely change the tax rules again.

For me they should scrap road tax and put extra on petrol to cover it. That way those who use the roads the most pay the most. Why should I pay the same road tax doing 8'000 miles a year as someone doing 20'000-30'000 miles a year they clearly put more wear and tear on the roads than me. It seems these days that road tax is just a green tax with low emission cars paying nothing. The stupid thing is that Rodger the rep who gets his low emmision car then racks up mega millage will be worse for the environment than say someone who buys say a 300bhp evo/ focus rs and does 7k a year. Just my 2 pence worth. No doupt Rodger the rep and the truck drivers will tell me I'm wrong though

Roger the rep and his Trucker mates might agree with you, but would point out that you and the rest of the population would have to pay more for any goods that travel in trucks on the road.

So that's the cost of everything that would go up for everyone, just so you don't have to pay car tax.

This is why all unfair motoring taxes should be abolished, and income tax raised. Motorists should not fund the running of the country as they currently do. If there must be taxation, then it should be income based.

Then the cost of transport would fall, the cost of goods would fall, the money sponging bastards get would go much further so they could get less. And best of all, we wouldnt have to pay a fucking fortune to enjoy our hobbies. ie drive cars.

nearly forgot to mention this new nursery rime:

motorists in the bed:

5 motorists in the bed and the chancellor said “bend over, bend over!”
So we all bent over and took it up the ar*e!

4 motorists in the bed and the chancellor said “in deeper, in deeper!”
So everyone winced and our eyes watered!

3 motorists in the bed and the chancellor said “want more, want more!”
So everyone screamed “no please, no please!”

2 brave motorists in the bed and the chancellor said “sucker! Suck it!”
So the motorists couldn’t scream ’cos their mouths were full…

Only 1 motorist left in the bed and the chancellor said “congestion charging, congestion charging”
Then pinched his nosed to simulate congestion…. And he passed out!

count yourselves very very lucky to be paying only that

in ireland here are a few examples

commerical vehicle is 310 euro a year

some of the newer greener cars are anywhere from 100 to 400euro a year

my a7, 3 litre tdi is 650 euro a year

but if you had a passenger jeep like a landcruiser or any car over 2.5 litre in cc it is 2000 euro a year

That level of taxation seems punitive enough to really encourage evasion on a grand scale

so many times the discussion of extra tax on fuel comes up, it would be afar better for low mileage car owners, it was thought that going off average mileage it would have to cost everyone around 12-14p per litre.
i'd be happy with that, but high mileage drivers would end up paying so much more.
