Mk3 Escort Ghia on carbs
Yesterday i headed down to Aberdeen to pick this little beauty up, bought on a whim without veiwing it first and not regretting it one bit.
It has a fair few problems needing sorted out for an mot but most of them are small things.
A list of plans.
Some Pics.

Carbs FTW

Rust on rear door shuts

Rusty rear passenger side arch

Surprisingly clean boot floor

Interior

And finally the all important badge

Cheers for looking and hopefully have some progress soon. Any comments/criticism or ideas welcome.
Cheers, Duncan

the car has had approx 5 mots since it came from newcastle ,the owner i know of was called zetecnology ,then duk2 a few randoms then me and now duncan ,i will be honest i never looked for any cut chassis but what i did look at there didnt seem to be anything obvious ,are you sure it was an escort and not a fiesta your thinking about ?
Little update.
Went out a little blast in it around camp after work today just to get a better feel for the car as obviously i cant drive on public roads at the moment in it. Under full throttle in 4th n 5th it seems to bog down quite a lot, not sure if this is a characteristic of carbs or not
Also the brakes definately need redoing or upgrading to cossie variants.
There seems to be an electrical fault somewhere in the lights system, the right hand side lights front + rear are very dim and when you indicate right (or Hazards) the brake lights, indicators and reverse lights flash randomly.
Apart from the ever growing faults list i let it warm right up then high revved it and wow, pops n bangs more than my ST on the way down
Enjoy, Duncan

I'd go for the rear earths to be cleaned up as well, google escort disco lights as it was very common in the 80's and 90's,really is a 20 minute job.
Cool motor!!!

With regards to the chassis leg and whether or not its cut i'll have a good rake around tonight and get some pics. I dont see why it would though but we'll find out

Update time
The car has sat outside my accomodation looking sorry for itsel these past few weeks and i've not really showed it any attention at all.
So this morning after the F1 i was wide awake and the sun was shining so went outside and attempted to start her up..... didnt start. Thought something was draining the battery so jump started it using the Focus. In the end this problem turned out to be a loose battery connection due to using the terminal adapters.
Got it up on some ramps to have a look underneath, especially the fuel tank. Someone had tried to jack it up via it but in all fairness it looked ok. Also all sills etc underneath look in good nick for 30 yrs old.
So popped to Elgin and got some fuel to whack in the tank, had my mate underneath leak checking it and it was all good with nae leaks. Reconected it in the engine bay and boom i have a proper fuel system again, nae more dodgy coke bottles right next to the engine lol
By fixing this it brought around the next issue, the fuel warning light went out after a few litres went in the tank but the gauge on the dash refused to move. So next week i'll be stripping the clocks out and checking connections etc as the way i see it is if the fuel warning lamp is working then the sender unit is aswell (assuming they get there signal from the same place, advise if i'm wrong please)
Sorry nae pics but my phone takes crap pics and couldnt find ma camera
Cheers for reading

i never thought it for one minute but the guy was adamant ,case closed
the fuel tank wont give the correct reading because of the tank ,ie it takes Ł60 to fill the tank but it will only take Ł25 as its damaged and cant take the correct amount

So an update of sorts
It blew up!...... in a huge cloud of steam and coolant spewing everywhere
So a full strip down is to follow in the next few months
First of many new parts is a new bonnet pull to replace the current snapped one

Let the fun begin
