Currently shopping for my Old man for something to replace his T5.
Budget is ~£30k. Few grand over isn't a problem.
BMW 520d SE with a Sport Autobox (Abit 'Old Man')
BMW 325d SE Touring (E90) with a Sport Autobox (Abit dated)
New BMW 320d Sport with the Sport Autobox (Would love a 328i Sport but not availible
)
Ford Mondeo TXS 2.0 Ecoboost 240 (£30k on a Mondeo? Hmmm)
Vauxhall Insignia VXR (A little pricey for what they are)
But looking about there isn't much availble.
Anyone else have any good ideas?
Nothing out there really seems to fit the bill Except the E90 325d.
Bailes.

It's a lease car.
He does anywhere between 50 and 300 miles a day so it makes sense to him.
It's hassle free motoring. If it goes wrong he gets a new car on the doorstep in a few hours while his cars being fixed etc.
Tyres, tax, servicing it all taken cared for etc.
He likes the new 320d too, spec it in grey with red leather with some 18" Anthracite wheels and it looks amazing! But £33k is quite abit of money!
Although the lease company will get a sizeable discount with that.

What are Merc's like these days?
Just having a look at a C250 CDi Sport Saloon in Red with Cream leather which is about the same price as the BMW 320d Sport. Both around £33,500 but the Beemer has an Autobox specced.

Best 5 series you can stretch to.
Only other car I'd consider would be a Subaru Legacy Outback. The 3.6 is £37k new though, but would give you your 4wd.
I'd go for the BMW for a new car, but would give the Legacy more consideration if I was looking for a car up to 2 years old.

i second the Subaru, drove them before they were released when i was at Nissan bringing them on/off the ships at the port. Stunning motors and sound like 911`s!
Good call mike!

Mondeo for me, far better value for money than the rest mentioned imo, the same size as a 5 series as well, and loaded with gadgets if you get a decent model.
My pick would be Titanium X, this is basically the MK3 ST replacement, has the same 5 pot engine which your Dad currently has as well.
As said it may be worth waiting for the MK5 (If you were interested), unless you want something this year?
Think it pretty much meets all of your criteria, bar 4WD, think it's full leather as well?

It's a 2.0 4 cyl Turbo with 240bhp.

Also got half leather but that aint an issue.
We were looking at the 5pot Titanium when he got his current T5 which was a replacement for a Mondeo ST220.
He just think £30k is allot of money on a Mondeo.

My Dad's current T5 was nearly £29k specced up and the lease company got it for £23k.
Second on the list is a BMW (E90) 325d SE Touring in dark red with cream leather, autobox and folding mirrors which comes in around £34k.
This looks stunning though!

Hmmm well realistically, I'd make a list of possibles... then find out what cars are available with a short turnaround (from ordering to delivery) before wanking off over the online car builders mate. No point getting all geared up for a tidy spec BMW 3-series then finding out that because it's a new model, it's got a delivery date 18 weeks down the line.
Volvo V70 D5 R-Design, think they're <35k with a few options... with a haggle, it might be down around ~30k.
Cheers,
Grant

Apologies for bringing this back up but I seem to have found a car that meets every single requirement... and it seems to be too good to be true?
Skoda Superb Elegance 3.6FSi 4x4

Saloon is £29,459 and Estate is about £1,200 more.
Just like peoples opinions/experiences just to advise my old man a little bit.
