Default Any Merc techs or know it alls on here?

My neighbour's Merc ( 2005 270 cdi E class ) has gone into limp mode and every now and again the engine light comes on.
I told them to get the codes read and then i would have a look, They took it to a garage and had the codes read - Intake channel shut off was the fault showing.

i had a quick look on the net and it seems common, but couldn't find the location or a picture. I'm having a look at the car tomorrow but just wondered if anyone has any info before i start pulling bits off lol.

on the throttle body theres a vacuum operated flap like a butterfly that closes when you turn the motor off, then opens again after engines been shut off, may just be full of usual oily shyte!

will have a word with one of my fellow techs who was MB dealer master now and report back, you may be able to help me with something also mate

Any more info on when it goes into limp mode, hot cold, driving, shutoff then restarted?

you need to check for split vac pipes to the vac operated t/bodie, and in that general area, also wiring arround and under airbox as this is common.

Any missfiring/lumpy running?

Lovely, thanks chaps, I will check those out,
Did a bit more research and found out a bit more, as James said, the linkage on the bottom of the inlet is prone to coking up and or breaking the linkage.
Stripping the car tonight to will hopefully will get to the botoom of it!
Gadge.

another common one ive done on V6 cdi is oil leaks out of the rubber seal that air pipe joins turbo, oil leaks onto swirl flap control motor and fries it, Ł680 bill to my customer, what a bitch to do aswell!!

Sean,
Not got the manifold off yet, ran out of light today. Got the fuel filter, bracket and all the pipes off, the solid fuel pipes that run through the manifold off, power steering tank and pipes off and most of the fixings but at the rear of the engine the loom and the gearbox dipstick go through between no.4 and 5 ports, i take it i need to completely remove them to gain access to the fixing bolts and allow me to remove the manifiold?

Also, once it's off, should the flaps move freely? or if there's nothing obvious with the flaps / linkage, is there any way to tell if it's definatly the motor?

Cheers, Gary.
