Default Water temp gauge fixing question

Hi folks, after the farce I had with Ford with my previous Escort Cossie, long story, I want to fit an aftermarket water temp gauge to my current car to actually be sure what the temp is and not rely on the standard gauge.
I've already got the gauge and pod, but can anyone tell me which hose you would fit the hose adaptor that you screw the sensor into, and what size the adaptor needs to be.
I guess it would be the same on the 4X4 Sapph to.
If anyone's done it already I'd love to see some pics.

Any help gratefully received.
