Hi all, not been on for ages back in 2008 I sold my series1 turbo, after trying a couple of newer fords to include a mk1 frs and a focus st2, and a golf and an a3, finally I am buying back my series one! after owning if for 5 years I have missed it terribly and it's now coming home! Me and the mrs had a deal whereby I can have it back, she chose a 182, I get my escort
sweet role on feb 4th!

Well it's only an investment/weekend toy, I have a brand new van for daily use and the mrs and I will use the Clio all year round, what do you have as a toy maxwell as you have such a stupid remark to say, this is why I don't bother with PF most of the time, thought this was a genuine enthusiast site, nothing changes with time does it, will get some pics when she is home and of course clean

Well who said it was an obsession? Just said I missed my old car that was all. Only people with S2 Rs turbos will have a comment like that for the offering, why even bother replying if you just have things like that to say, I have had 5 series 2 Rs turbos, frs, focus st, fez turbo and for me my PERSONAL fave was my S1, so it's not because of the price tag as money's not the issue here, personal preference that's all. Whats With the S1 hating anyway? Is it Cus they increase in value slightly more than other Rs turbos over the years?

Didn't come on he for an argument, was only saying that was excited to have my old car back, plusi spent 4 expensive years putting it together so I no how the car is and has been looked after. So I have dried my pies!?! And yes my mrs 182 is an incredible drivers car and I also do like it as a modern daily hot hatch drive,

I don't think any of the mk 3/4 escorts look shit at all like them both, have owned both and lived with both, just happy I was getting my s1 back, calm down dear, anyway moving on, yes it is a SOUND investment, like any genuine Rs badged ford, they will all peak sooner or later
Having driven, and hammered both an S2 and a 172, the drive of the 172 through the twisties is better.......... bbut I have just sold mine to get another S2......... and would give my right arm for an S1. they just look beautiful, a proper classic

That's it, I have the best of Both worlds now, a newer reliable car (Renault) and something to just sit and look at, my series 1, and take to some shows/poodle around on a Sunday, if I was worried about going fast we would have kept our focus Rs, just not the same sense of occasion you get from an old ford! I also would prefer to take a 172/182 round the twists it's what they were designed for, and they do it well! Still love S2 turbos spent my entire youth driving mending and tuning them!

I really like S1's... The nostalgia really does show when you drive one...a bit like my concourse 3dr... The attention it gets is un-real.... Just enjoy it mate.

Queue the wife....
IMO the 182 is more of a handbag to go alongside the series 1 but a quick cute little car all the same ... A saxo lover eh ... I had one of those also that's more like the tissue in the handbag
Ohh right!
This is a 106 gti turbo (basically the same lay out as a saxo vts)
Would you put this in the same league as a handbag!!???

Personally i love Series Ones, For a 1985 car i don't think they are trying to hard at all - back in the day they were fast cars.
They don't exactly come like that from the factory

You can make any car stupidly fast.

My mrs has never really had a issue with cars with me ive been lucky, i just see them as money i have sat on the drive. Better than having it in the bank and drinking it away or the mrs spending it lol

I love my S1 as well - and personally I don't give a toss how fast any other car is or isn't. I also don't see how you can compare a S1 to a Clio - they were designed 30 years apart ! The technology has moved on immeasurably in that time, so you cannot compare like for like. I would expect the Clio to handle batter and rev better etc, but so what ? How many French beantins will still be about in 25 years, still be desirable, have the following the RS marque in general has and actually still be worth something ?
Not many I would guess....

Hey Trist, how is it going,
maxwell, we have nothing against French hot hatches my mrs has owned most of them between us, but have always had a fast ford at the same time, because you can't justify using old 20 year old
Plus fords all year round, so how is there any comparison between an escort and 106/Saxo your argument does not make any sense. There in different leagues and decades 80/90s. And if you think back in 84, there were 300bhp escort s1 data post touring cars, made by ford in Essex, what were the French doing In 84? not building rs 500 touring cars were they?? You my son need to accept that your comment was childish and showed your lack of age now deal with it and Do one.

Not keen myself on saxo's... Think there proper shit... 106gti is where it's at.
My old track slag was a fucking animal at circa 200bhp.

1.8 stroked.. Lightened and balanced.
