I'm just looking around at the minute for either a Sierra or Escort Cosworth and I can't believe how much people want for some of the things about. I love my Fords but it seems to have gone mad at the minute.

I think people have seen what price genuine minters have started to command and think their car must be worth nearly the same since 'it's a good one' or 'just been sprayed' and that if they stick it up for big money then buyers might not check to closely when viewing the car and assume it's a belter they're buying... basically, as far as I can see, they're dreaming. Minters will still command big money, buckets of shit are still worth considerably less despite what they're being advertised for.

Cheers,
Grant

I looked at 3 saffs when I bought my Evo. two at 5k and one at 6500. All shocking. To get a decent Saff now you need to be parting with some serious dosh. Problem is though, as parts get scarce it pushes the price of the sheds up as they're worth more in parts.

I think some people think its the automotive version of the antique's road show and expect to be told their old rotter is worth enough to retire on!

It's an addictive sensation though Ran, a bit like shagging Johnny 'Mad-Dog' Adair's girlfriend while his sister videos it waiting for her turn. You know it will almost certainly result in your painful and violent death, but it's fun so you may aswell keep at it!

Makes me laugh people slating Cossie handling, 95% of cars have had 400Bhp thrown into a shagged old 20+ year chassis, on original bushes & cheap after market suspension! Put some time into the chassis & they are fine handling cars, very very balanced. Even back in the late 80's the humble Sierra was kicking the E30 M3's arse!

Granted the rear beam isn't great, but with a few mods they are superb. Clones comparing them to Evo 7/8 etc need to remember the years of development between them!

To be fair if you rammed 500+ bhp up the m3's arse it probably would have handed it to the Sierra.

The can be made to handle but IMO they have to be made/forced rather than asked.

That's actualy what I liked about mine,it was like trying to tame a wild animal.

Mine didn't have ANY goodies. All I had were 1000 year old Konis with god only knows springs.

Although, I stress, my Cossie was NOT a prime example It was a fucking shed

well they dont handle well the track is to narrow the body to long ! throwing a beam on them better but no where near perfect ! moving most of the pick up points will make them very good but do you want to spend 3-4 k on a geometry re jig and then another 3k on uprights

So, 6k for a Saff. 4k on re-jigging, and 3k on Suspension. Bargain!

One of the major plus points that cossies have going for them other apart from the engine is that is that the come in the correct flavour of driven wheels being rwd and 4wd, but you are ultimately fighting against a rather weak and wobbly shell, the term jelly mold unfortunately is quite apt in more ways than one.

I don't see anyone hear slating per say just being realistic in typical PassionFord banter, are they great fun to drive, darn right they are, but not all the creaks and rattles are due to old age which just adds to the charm to put it into perspective the escort cosworth shell which is a stiffer than the sierra has a torsional stiffness of around 6000 nm/deg a mk2 focus cabriolet with the roof down is just under 12000 nm/deg and over 20000 nm/deg with the roof up. So even when you put all the correct bits on its not just your arms twisting when your giving it the beans on a corner.

Agree 100%. It's all down to supply and demand and for the right car a hefty price tag will usually follow. I would suspect that alot of the ones that get broken (and there seems an awful lot of late) probably aren't all that, or if they are people want to realise as much cash as possible and unfortunately the big spec cars are worth more in bits.

Good news for those with mint, genuine cars who hang onto them though as prices will only go one way....

I remember when mag features were almost always ended with "it's up for sale" or "it's been sold since this article was written"
