Default Ford Ka repair

I have a problem removing the internal trim from the rear offside panel of a Ford Ka ( in order to get at the inside of the panel). I have managed to remove the screws and most of the plastic poppers but the rear tail of the trim appears to be locked in by the rivet holding the support to the parcel shelf. Do I really need to drill out this rivet just to release the internal trim or am I missing something. Looks like I could just cut off this plastic tail - it seems superflous. Any advice?
