Default Cat C Sapph's.......

A mate of mine has been offered a 2wd Sapphire shell thats on the list as a Cat C, it was light front end damage a few year back, it has all the VIC paperwork etc, big file of history and was on the roads as a complete car for a while after the damage. Now its been stripped and he's thinking of getting it and making it into a minty mint healthy powered road car again. His only query is what difference having a Cat C shell would make to the car, would it de-value it greatly or are they getting to a point now where they are getting that few and far between in nice condition that being on the hit list doesnt really bode concern to those wanting a nice car??

I would buy a cat c or d. in saff terms the shells are pretty much worth fuck all so if he needs shot of it he can always break it and get his money back that way.

I would rather have a rot free car on the hit list than a HPI clear rotter! Just tell him to find out if his insurance would be affected by the Cat C

Would it bother the insurance that it was a previous Cat C even after it has been repaired and VIC'd and used on the roads again?
If he did get it and build it it would never be getting dismantled again in his ownership.

Ive insuranced cat c and cat d before, they tend to not care since its roadlegal, but they dont give you full market value if its clamed upon. Other than that, i wouldnt care, providing it hasnt had heavy damage!

Would they still pay out if it had an agreed valuation from the RSOC, which I think is what he would want, once its rebuilt or would they argue the toss because of the Cat C?

I would imagine so ,

If not and you did get a valuation on the car then had to make a claim for some reason I would imagine the insurance company may try use it to not pay out your full valuation due to it bring on the hit list

As if you have a insurance claim on a cat c vehicle they give you 40% of the bottom book price iirc .

Imo. Ive bought loads of cat c cars and put back on the road. I wouldn't do it on a saff when you can pick a decent saff shell up for not a lot of money. A cat c saff will be worth alot less than a non cat c saff.

If it does get written off and they only pay out say £3000 then the best thing to do is buy it back (usually 10% of the payout) and break it, job done!
