Default old school classics?

I've always wanted a mk2 project, but people are asking silly prices for them these days.

However, ive a thing for the old school cars. I love anglias, but since harry potter has come on the scene every tom, dick and harry wants em.

Is there a 'budget' ford classic thats worth buying, I cant think of one?

thanks

This might sound daft but i have a strange liking for mk3/4/5 Cortinas.
They don't seem to be demanding as much as the Escorts etc but i'm sure it won't be long before they do.

Mk1 Fiesta would be a good start at owning a classic Ford, you can pick up a tidy one for good money.I got mine in March 2011 and love it.

stick with the mk2 idea but maybe a estate or a van, pick them up a decent price but done nice be a very good investment as even the 4 doors well built are creeping up in price

mk2 Granada, mk2/3 Capri, Mk4/5 Cortina, mk1 fiesta and a mk3 escort are all cheap classics. People do ask stupid money for mk2 and mk1 escorts, the whole appeal of Fords in their hayday was that they were fun, cheap to buy and cheap to modify.

Agree about the price of early Escorts, they are getting crazy now.

What about a 2.8 Injection Capri, lots of fun! I wish my parents never sold their Mercury grey E reg.

If I could afford it, I would happily pay the high price simply because I'd want one but the fact is not everyone who wants one can afford one sadly.

You can get a XR3i cheap enough, though for some reason they're not accepted as "old skool" despite alot of them being the same age / older than capri's (Not that I don't like Capri's, love 'em )

My mk1 Fiesta will be 30 years old in February & i refer to it as a 'classic' more than 'old skool',my first car which i got at 17 back in 1988 was a 1982 'X' plate Mk3 Escort. How old doe's a car need to be before it's classed as 'classic' ?.I am a huge fan of all old skool Fords specially Mk1 & 2 Escorts,i have approached a few mags & all i get told is as my Fiesta is original/standard & not modified/restored it's not something they would feature, now not being funny but i would of thought having a car so original & un-touched at 30 yrs old would be a rare find specially as it's a non sport model.

Yep, MKI Fiesta if you can find one that isn't rusting to pieces.
