Without signing up to there forums, does anyone know of any issues/problems or anything in general to look out for on these?

My dads mate wants to start the search for one next week but he doesn't know much about cars just likes to drive them

 

I came close to buying one a year back, the service schedule is every 6k if I recall correctly, there are a very limited number of Nissan approved service centers in the UK, the tyres are nitrogen filled or something similar,

There are lots of horror story's about activating launch control in validating warranties etc and the cost of parts is high,

That said they are very comfortable and brutally fast, my wife loved in when she drove it, very easy to drive.

I am considering one again as pound for pound l don't think much can compare performance wise

Didnt they have issues with the bonnet and the safety release thing? Apparantly if the bumper takes the slightest of knocks a solenoid pops the back of the bonnet up so if the impact is severe it slides up over the windscreen? I've heard stories that these just 'activate' and its not covered under warranty? Ł2500 to reset? Correct me if i'm wrong! Lovely cars though, they are actually massive when standing next to one!! A little Chinese guy around my way owns a matt black one and he can barely see over the steering wheel!!!!!!

 

All to do with bonnet clearnce on the engine to meet EU. Remember reading some one had moved forward at a junction and touched the car in front and it went off. from what they where saying they are rams that work on an explosion (not semtex!) and the whole units have to be replaced and it cost upwards of 5K. Went out in a friends and they're an awesome bit of kit. hit 186mph on the ring and it has an incredible turn of speed. Well worth the buy i would say.

gearboxes if launch control is used, as launch control is only supposed to be used on icey or when the cars stuck in certain conditions, if used fully for a launch the gearbox destroys itself and sure i read somewhere its 30k to replace

as above about the bonnet thing, you have to replace the rams, bonnet and ecu

 

IIRC there was a post on here about 6 months after they were released where someone tapped a van at some lights and the pedestrian protection system went off. The guy had to shell out Ł3k to get it repaired!

 

This was also on some consumer program or something, not sure about icy conditions thou, but there is a clause in the warrantee about the launch control that it's not covered if it causes the transmission to fail, which when used to often it does!

I think they are great cars, probably one of the best budget super cars to come out in recent years. Up to 2G in cornering force!!! But I guess like all budget buys, they go wrong!

 

my mate has one, previously had a 33gtr that my other mate now has. the 33 was stupidly quick imo with 420hp and brakes too match. well the new gtr is an altogether different beast, a lot lot quicker and more refined. better..... everything. still i like the rawness of older skylines. 400hp is more than ill ever need.

I'd go as far as quantum, they can sporadically chuck all 1800kg of themselves around hairpins at 120mph without slipping a tyre...

Pretty sure the figures for the pedestrian system repair are way low......

 

The spare part prices are quite eye watering, however that is side of pond. But you can get an idea of the cost of some of the parts that are you would need to replace over time, brakes etc having a nose around here.

As for issues to look for there was / is a problem with bellhousing bearing can't remember if there was a recall or if it's a fix on a case by case bases and which model year/s this effects.

One thing to factor in is the service costs as like the parts some seem a bit OTT, not sure of the prices back home but one of the big service costs is the transmission oil, which over here cost $100 a quart and in a transmission that holds up to 10 quarts it soon adds up, though most dealers will do it for around $80, bugger knows what the oil is made from for it to cost so much, maybe that's why Japan still goes whaling as they are needed for GTR oil.

If your not taking it to the track or launching it from every set of lights it should work of reasonable. The one big disappointment IMO is that for a 3.8l v6 twin turbo it sounds a bit rubbish, the transmission makes more interesting noises then again if you've ever had the misfortune to endure a long journey in a infinity g35 or a Nissan 350z it would seem that great sounding v6's isn't one of Nissan's strong points of late.

 

It sounds terrible as standard.. Iv said it before and il say it again they are boring.. Only becuase they do everything to well.

 

How would one compare too a short blast up the dual carriage way compared to a 500hp saff? Local guy has one just want too know as I'l stay well clear if it's going to be in a different league to my car!!

All three Silverstone cars had something major wrong with them. I love them, new wit ha warranty they make sense, but s/hand i'm not so sure...

 

Ł2k for a set of tyres might sound eye watering if you're used to sticking on a few hundred quids worth... but compared to a new BMW needing 4 runflats at cŁ1000 then while it's pricey, for a car that can do what the GTR can do, I don't think it's mental.

as said tbh, some of the new fords with the big wheels are comming in at a grand for a set of tyres, so 2 grand for a set of gtr tyres in my opinion isn't excessive.

 

I thought this too.

THought the repair of the one that bumped the tow bar of the van in front making a little dent in the bumper cost near 11 grand to repair at the time???

 

To be honest I really have no emotions for them at all, it is a car built for the playstation generation. Any total numpty could drive to 9.9/10ths & the car will sort it all out, I am sure they are amazing to drive, but where is the challenge? To me there is just no passion in the car.

Give me a powerful RWD car with few driver aids any day of the week! Lap times at the ring are not a measure of fun!
