my wife has a 2008 fiesta 1.6 tdci zetec s. when she is coasting in 2nd and 3rd gear it drops out of gear. doesn't happen all the time but quite a lot. never under acceleration, just when coasting. car has only done 22,000 miles. any ideas on what is causing it and is it likely to be expensive . thanks, neil.

 

My girl friends st does this. As does A friends mk7 zs tdci ( all same gearbox as yours)

It's due to the second gear synchromeshes. Ford are awear of the problem but won't do fuck all about it

Synchros themselves are pretty cheap but the labour....
