Default Can you still bodge MOT's?

Not for me but a guy at work says hes going to get his mate to send him a new mot document, said he will just use the reg of another car? how can you do that as its all automated isnt it? and the "other" car would already have an mot so how can another reg be used?

He said he will pass his shit emissions aswell.

I know this was going on years ago but is it still going on now?

oh yeah i know its illegal.

But what i want to know is how can you use another cars reg to do the mot? as the cars reg your using to put yours through will already show up as mot not due?

P.s the guy is a dickhead, as you can probably tell

its still possible to have MOTs done without the car being present if you know the right person but as said already not only is it illegal but its pretty daft

he can't use a different reg has to be the correct reg but has said car doesn't actually have to be at the test centre

yes it still goes on and again as said emmissions can be passed with a donor car

but its illegal and the moter can be heavily fined so can the test centre and also they can both risk losing there abilities to test vehicles

Naughty but as long as they don't get caught in the act then surely the MOT emissions could change by the next day if a sensor or something failed?

Dont even need a donor car for emmisions,
A garage I know of doesnt even do the emissions test.

They only use your reg... And only use the donor car for the emissions test.

i am an mot tester and the computerised system is no safer than the old hand written mot certificates. the system only prints out what the mot tester tells it to. testers that do it will eventually get caught out and will then lose a pretty safe living which aint worth the quick drink for passing shit

then they will soon be caught out when they dont have the emmisions printouts that they are meant to keep for every single test that they do

it happens all the time they just stick the emissions tester up another vehicle
and why he wants him to keep it 6 months is incase he sells it and the new buyer queries the mot due to faults ect

you would be suprised. my vosa area manager has openly admitted that they know of a few garages in the area that are blatantly just selling mots for cash but nothing is done. the whole system is a joke

Mot tester would be nuts to put a car through with dodgy tyres,
other things I can understand, but a tyre. thats pretty serious

putting a ticket on a bald tyre is just stupid. if that car got pulled over driving away from the mot station after just passing an mot the tester would be fucked

Nice to know people happy to drive round in potentially dangerous cars with family and friends inside, compared to tax and insurance costs, MOT is small beans.

From my experiance my MOT testers often saved me money pointing out things to fix which could left me stranded at the roadside.

Maybe not. The MOT requirement was for 1.6mm of tread across the centre 3/4 of the tread width. By law it's 1.6mm across the whole tread. SO in theory you could pass the MOT but due to alignment be low on the insides and get 3 points a piece.

That was my understanding though and I am prepared to be corrected

I know someone years ago who had a complete pad of blank MOT's already pressed with the stations details. All you had to do was fill in the boxes.

The computerised systems stops this from occuring but also keeps track of the vehicles mileage to help prevent clocking.

I'm a tester i have been asked so many times to do a dodgy mot, it's not worth your name and your job that pays the bills, I've had loads of my mates saying your a dick can't believe you failed it, if that's the case what If I didn't fail there car on a leaking fuel pipe and the next day it catches fire , then who would be the dick?

Every tester will turn a blind eye to things but it's just plain stupid to mot the car without it being present,

Hello Danny
It only stops John down the pub selling them freely at the bar,
but it doesnt stop Testers taking car details then printing them off at work then giving it out so it hasnt really achieved anything being computerised imo!

i'm a mechanic, and check over my car myself, and working in the PSV/HGV trade most of what i do is preventative maintenance, so im pretty good at spotting somthing that is going to fail in the near future...

this is how an MOT test should be too imo!!
rumble in a wheel bearing... imo SHOULD be a fail... its going to fail in the near future... so fail the mot, or any of you guys think thats a bit harsh??

at work, if i think somthing is going to fail, a VOR notice goes in the coach and it doesnt go out.
if my boss decides otherwise and sends the coach out and the part fails... its not on my back that someone got hurt. (potentially)

I agree, i often give my car a bit of stick and although i also check it over i want it to be thoroughly checked at mot time too.
