bought a 2wd drive saph about 2 years ago now and when i bought it the guy said that the speedo doesnt work as the gearbox was rebuilt using tvr internals as it kept destroying gearboxes, which he then said that a speedo drive couldnt be fitted due to these internals, does this sound right? as im thinking of having the gearbox taken out and checked to see if a speedodrive can be fitted, has anybody heard of this before? ive had a look at the gearbox and there is juse a blank where the speedodrive should be, getting sick of using tomtom all the time now

 

I've got a similar problem, I've got a straight cut glebe gearbox in mine with no speedo drive, I'm going to buy a stack or similar electronic speedo and run a pick up sensor at the rear.

 

yeah i suppose thats an option, i wanted to use my original speedo though

 

Yeah, I know what you mean, not sure if you can fit the drive without stripping the box though.

 

yeah i dont mind having the box stripped if it means i can have my speedo working its just that the guy i bought the car from said that it cant be fitted so was just wondering if its true or not before i do have the box taken out

 

Have a look under the box where the cable goes into the box. If you remove the little retaining but the drive will pull from the box although it might be tight. You can see theirs a plastic gear on the end which runs on a plastic toothed shaft in the box. You will be able to see if either are damaged.
