Question Oil in Air filter box

Hi,

I am a newbie to this but I recently bought an ST170 and love it. I recently replaced the stock air filter with a K&N one to find that there was some oil in the bottom of the air filter box. It had seeped onto the old filter too. Is this something i need to be worried about and how can i go about fixing this problem?

Thanks

Crankcase breathing system vents into the airbox so nothing to worry about unless the car's dumping loads and loads into there but hopefully you would notice your oil levels dropping.

Thanks Dave, thats a relief
No its not dumping loads in there i don't think. How would I rectify this so potentially less oil vents into the airbox?

Clean out the breather system, it could indicate a hard life for the car or there may be an elivated amount of crank case pressure which can suggest a tiring engine, i never ever had oil return through the breather system on my ST170

I would personally say it's "breathing quite heavily", what is the millage?

Usually there is a PCV filter in the airbox?

Never had this with my st170. When it's idling, carefully remove oil filler cap, can you feel pressure there? Or through the dipstick hole?

Its coming up to 87K and yes there is a small filter in the corner of the airbox where the breather tube vents in.

How would i go about cleaning the breather system?

I will check the oil pressure though the dial seems to read ok when im driving and when its idling.
