Default Cosworth / RS Prices

Who agrees / disagrees that some older RS prices are just silly? I know you pay for what you get but I think some people are asking stupid money.

Here's some examples of how I think prices should be from the bottom condition to top condition cars:

Escort Cosworth 8k to 18k
Saphs 3k to 8k
3 doors 5k to 12k
3 door RS500 10k to 20k
RS16i's 1k to 5k
S1's 2k to 6k

Who is responsible for bumping the prices up?

At the prices people seem to be asking nowadays they will all end up garage queens! It would be a shame!

Its a joke i've always wanted a 2wd saph and 4/5 years ago you could get a half decent stage 3 for £3/3.5k but i was too young to insure one now i'm old enough to insure one i can't fucking buy one because of the rediculous price hike

A 2wd saph might not be everyones dream car i understand that but i went through school with a severe passion for fords and had years worth of mags, On the list was rs turbos and cossies been there and done the rs turbo thing but still not the cossie yet

Its getting to the point now where it would be cheaper to buy a standard clean sapphire and convert it to cosworth because the prices are that high and it makes no difference to me what the log book says,

Having said that whilst i do understand your point and feel your pain SOME cars do deseerve to fetch top money so i dont 100% agree with how you think pricing should be,

What pisses me off is people that brake the high spec ones but at the end of the day people always go where the money is and that will never change so i do understand it but at the end of the day we all know what we're getting into when we start modifiying and we all lose money on cars when it comes to selling them modded so why should rs's and cosworths be any different?? If money bothers people that much don't spunk thousands on them in the 1st place imo.

All my mates apart from a select few are into jap crap and they say im mental for wanting a rusty old ford but fun to me is hammering the shit out of a prestige powerful and expensive cars in a classic ford that cost less than a quarter of these so called super cars, Rant over i'm not bitter honest

Buyers dictate actual selling (not asking) prices not the sellers, so blame them for the high prices.

Its only the sellers of one offs that can decide what their car is worth, so if more than one car of any particular make is available then the market makes that decision.

Best turn down on a 500 I have heard of was 120k and that was from the person who had sold the car a few months before for far far less.

The guy must have been a complete mutant for offering 120k and the guy who declined must have been just as much if not bigger a mutant!

i still think rs500 prices are insane for what is a jumped up 3 door cossie

the price is way out of proportion for the actual car you get.

if i had £120k to spend on a performance car it certainly wouldnt be a old ford!!

I wonder how many are just sat as investments rather than appreciated as cars.

Disagree completely with the RS500 prices. They're a very limited special and sought after car and should rightly be priced well above the others. Also think the upper estimate on S1's should be £8k, but the rest I totally agree with.

I've priced them 8k more than a normal 3 door on my price guide LOL.

What do you think they are worth?

You can think they're worth whatever you like mate, fact is anything is worth what anyone is prepared to pay. If someone will pay £60k for an RS500, then that's what it's worth. Also bear in mind that a lot of cars have been scrapped and broken, so then it comes down to supply and demand, and when the latter outstrips the former the price goes up. Simple economics, it ain't rocket science.

I disagree with the term, it's worth what someone will pay. I don't see the value there and I think they are over priced. This is only my opinion though, I'm sure plenty of people disagree with me. I don't think it's rocket science either LOL

Jesus mike do you own an s1 or something???

I fail to see why anyone in a sound mind would pay cossie money for an rs turbo as nice and rare as the s1 may be / getting

Great, you think they're overpriced. Maybe they are, but it still doesn't mean that if someone is prepared to pay whatever the cost is to own one that in their eyes it isn't worth it.

i brought my saph for 3k 8years ago so its a blinding investment. Looking for a bargain 3dr next.

The prices have risen as its simple supply and demand. So many rs's are being broken that instantly increases the valve of ones left

So if someone drives like a tit and writes their car of... We all profit from that

plus cosworths will always be worth more than they should for the pure fact it says cosworth on the boot as discussed many times before. Who the fuck want to spend 20-30k on a new bmw or audi to get the same sort of performance figures as a cossie

2nd who would choose to drive a 20-30k bmw or audi over a cosworth. No one i know, no one with a passion for cars or motorsport would ever choose anything over a cossie as...

If you want something that is rare and in excellent condition then people will pay the price regardless. Whats the issue.

Im glad I bought mine when I did

3k saffs were sheds 8 years ago though. I know because I had one and had many mates with 'cheap' cossies ranging to v good spec.

It doesnt necessarily mean all 3k cars 8 years ago are worth good money these days

One poor bastard with a nice car is sellign a clearly nice saff at say 8k... hence that means the market for all saffs is 8k.

wow.

Surely the FRST market is a funny old game?

I'd say lassies have more to choose from these days and prefer a newer car.

I can understand a bigger market years ago when the girls didnt have much else to choose from

So arent they cheaper these days as there are less buyers?

I don't have an issue with it, I just wanted to discuss why over the last few years they have became "in my eyes" over priced. I used to think they were ok priced. Not now.

As said mate, supply and demand, There are far fewer cars out there than there used to be but there is still demand so the price goes up. Same with parts.

I bought an S2 in 1999 for 3k. It was only 9 years old at the time. It was a rotten bag of shite then.

If only I had it now it would've appreciated

IMO a 6k saff should be a vey good one.

TBH I have no idea what yours is like so it's not a representation of your car.

Unfortunately the main/only thing I know about you is your love for corsa's

Most people I know would rather drive a BMW or Audi LOL

I wouldn't but I'd say 95% of people would.

I think alot of people with a passion for cars and motorsport would buy something else apart from a cosworth?

The best of breed will always attract big money.

I think prices will rise for the best survivors.

I hear the word investment for the RS500 well its not done very well to date a 40k Rs500 has risen by less than 3% per year put in a Building Society the £19950 would be over 120k in that time.

Maybe that 120k RS500 is about right .

^ This.

My 10 yr old M3 for 8-9 k or a 23 ish yr old Sierra. Hmmmmmmm.

I always laugh at other similar cars that are now worth FA. No getting away from it, the cossie brand is massive.

Look at 1992-4 wrc cars, well rd versions of.

Esc cossie 15k
Celica GT4 - Cant give them away?
