Buy a car that has been re-shelled by Ford but they never stamped the VIN on the chassis? Ie, the VIN simply wasn't stamped on the chassis, NOT it was removed.

What problems could there be? The car in question has changed owners a few times and thus never had any problems.

It does sound dodgy I know

I can't help but think that a garage as reputable as Ford would miss out such an important detail, even if it was 20 years ago.

Is there any other ways of checking it's legitamacy - aside from certificate for the MOT that Ford would have to of done to put it back on the road, proof of past owners, etc..

why would ford even bother reshelling a car??

sounds odd to me unless its something rare and very expensive in which case they wouldn't miss out the vin!!

Is it really SO special/rare that you couldn't hold out and wait a little longer for a straight example of the same model?

Cheers,

Seen a few reshells from Ford over the years.
Never usually stamped.
Did usually have a vin tag on the slam panel stating replacement shell supplied with panels, or similar.

Saw a transit pick about a year ago with no vin stamped which had rolled apparently when it was three weeks old, it was re-shelled by tc Harrison with all the paperwork with to support the work strange why it's not stamped with either the old vin or a new one to denote a re-shell, apparently it was their demonstrator van.
