Default Another help please post......UPDATED

Ok posted before but it's nothing that was recomended....basically.my saff is missing like mad, BUT she only misses when you are driving normally (if there is such a thing).

So if i leave her ticking over she is fine (sometimes lumpy but aren't they all), then if I take her for a drive she misses like mad - but stops wen i plant my foot to the floor, now its all well and good coz i luv planting my foot, but the 3 police cars ive past in the last 2 nights or so aren't going to appreciate it I dont think........I'm gonna book it in with Stu @ MSD im just a bit worried I mite do some damage driving all that way with it like this (3 quarters of an hr), so does anyone have any ideas.....PPPPPLLLLLLEEEEEEEAAASSEEEEEE

it sounds like a fueling problem like as if the fuel is at the rail and holding presuer and when you drive it hard the fuel presuer is increasing or it could be plugs lead phase sensor or at wores it could be some thing like is contamanting the plugs and would need head off

phase sensor in the dizzy?
tps sensor ?
poor contact in cap?
mapping issue ?
incorrect plug gaps (too big)?
the list is endless tbh . It comes down to trial and error with changing bits n bobs

does the rev counter stay steady when it's missing, or does the reading get erratic?
If the Rev counter stays steady then it's a fuelling problem or HT problem (dist cap, leads, plugs). However, HT problem is unlikely if it behaves OK under load..
If the rev counter is all jumpy when it's misfiring, then it's likely to be a non- HT electrical issue - crank or phase sensor, poor earth connection on the ignition or ECU parts of the loom, ignition amplifier etc...

May be Kim, worth a try swapping things over.

Coil, leads, plugs,gap in plugs,dizzy cap,fuel pressure,bad earth somewhere,spark amplifier.

Could be any of the above but you have had some of the above done by Stu so should be all o.k.

IMO, if it's leads/plugs then it's likely to misfire under load which is where the HT components have to work hardest, which usually shows up the shortcomings..

OK - took leads and dizzy cap off, put sum diff plug leads on, started running on 2 cylinders, so put the old leads back on still on 2 cylinders, 1 & 4 are dead but if you put a plug in the leads they are all sparking.......just took plugs out to clean em and number 1 was covered in oil......any ideas???

Also wen I put the ignition on (dont even have to start it) it backfires well loud!!!!!

Got pretty similar problem with mine after yesterday.

Mine is sparking on all 4 but missing on idle, when you boot it it is o.k then.

Changed a few plugs etc....still missing on 2,4.

did find though when i unplug the injector plug on them there is no difference, unplug 1 and 3 the car nearly cuts out.

check if yours is doing the same.

think it is down to a sensor but not sure which one.

need to make a few phone calls 2morrow.

would it be worth sticking some injector cleaner in and running it through??

Can you make it misfire by revving it when its idling??? or is it only as your driving it??

you really won't melt anything driving off-boost, but the fuel bill will obviously be less on the back of a truck..

the tps is the throttle position sensor

when these f*ck up it makes the splutter and hesitate

my mates old saff had a didgy tps on it and it drove fine on boost, but would idle all over the place and hesitate and splutter when driving slowly at low revs

its really easy to change, its the part by the throttle, cant remeber what colour it is but you cant miss it

http://search.ebay.co.uk/cosworth-throttle_W0QQfltZ9

hope this helps. and it may save a journey
