car diagnostic laptop ?

Is it possibly to set up your laptop to do car diagnostics?

Its for my own use, and i dont see the point in paying 50quid for a car scanner

yeah they work i have an elm 327 it works with petrols 2001 onwards and 2004 onwards for diesel, i use scan pro xl and digimoto software wise with it
