Default Had my first accident today (pics added)

well was driving into town today, down a single track lane at about 30-35MPH, limit was 40

came face to face with a tractor, braked hard and the wheels locked (wet ground) so released and reapply'ed them but was no use, met the front left tractor wheel at must of been 10MPH.

tractors fine, but the nova looks like a camal toe now.

hes getting the tractor checked out and seems happy to avoid making a claim if its ok.

im fully comp but with the excess i have, it would be pointless making a claim.

as i say, its my first accident (been driving nearly a year)

any advice?

que the PF do gooders any moment...

Fingers crossed he doesnt come back saying his tractor is damaged, assuming he doesnt, then just take it on the chin and dont claim.

If he does, try and settle cash rather than go through insurance.

Lets hope he doesnt claim whiplash and all that crap that everyone does when they have some minor ding that doesnt effect them!

Sorry to hear about the nova mate, was a decent little car that

I think he'd be a bit mad to claim really. I can't see a Nova making much impact on a tractor

Is it fixable? I'd avoid claiming if possible, then get to work fixing it if you can.

Thanks guys really feel like ive let the car down (weird aye)

The road where i tried to brake was next to a farm entrance and there was straw and muck everywhere..

looking for a new car so i can just swap the insurance over.....

700KG Nova Vs 4Tonne Tractor, he had stopped by the time i hit him so he better not try to claim whiplash

I'll get some pictures up of the damage soon, it might not be as bad when i take a second look

whiplash ? in a tractor ? LOL.. i think they'd laugh at him anyway if he tried that one.

Bad luck about the Nova though , always had a soft spot for gsi's and gte's..but at least you're insured

theres a crease in the A piller which means the chassis leg has moved

indeed, had the car apart today and it wasent as bad as i thought.... I'll let the pics do the talking

Some pictures of the car in daylight to begin with..

Tractor guy phoned and said the tractor was fine.. so i dont need to make a claim..

Let the tear down begin.. 45 minutes later;

after seeing it, it didnt look as bad as i thought..

the slam panel and bumper iron took most of the impact, and it looks like this forced the front part of the inner wing down, didnt realise novas had built in crumple zones (in 1984!!) just in front of the strut top.. going to get a jack under the inner wing tomorrow to see if it will return and pull the crease out with it.

If it does, then i'll just need a new front panel, wing, bonnet, bumper, driver-side headlight and number plate

started straitening out what i could, including the old wing and the bonnet just to see what shape the front was in, with the aid of a 16oz claw hammer. A NOVA WAS BORN!! drained the coolant and pulled the radiator and everything out the way while i was there...

i suggest a club hammer and a trusty bit of wood and your inner wing will be factory fresh (its how the front end of capri got straightened after been pull out of shape and was bent towards the drivers side
