CVH Front Crank oil seal fitting advice please.

CVH Front Crank oil seal fitting advice please.
Morning all.
Need to replace the front crank oil seal on XR3i.
Have tried this before with mixed results-keep leaking again eventually.
Can anyone please offer any help or advice on best fitment method and tools for the job.
As I will be doing it on the drive is it worth dropping the engine down a bit on a jack to aid access? I am ok on the tools but this is the one job that I never seem to be able to crack-getting the seal in place without disturbing the reataining spring on the back!
