hi

i have an issue with the old smoker...

just changed out the alternator, disconnected ground wire on alternator before i started...change went smoothly no problems, upon reconnection of the battery i tried to start but got some odd symptoms

key position 1, everything on the dash lights up as it should

key position 2, petrol light illuminates as does aftermarket boost guage but they then go STRAIGHT out, glow plug light does not come on at all...stereo does not operate

so it would seem there is no ignition live....i suspect a relay?, where is it?

also...when the key is removed from the ignition the oil light and handbrake light glow dim


any advice please?

 

it sound like it is back feeding somewhere , check all the wiring around the starter and alternator again and make sure its all correct

have you swapped the alternator for a new one or used ? if used , was it def ok ? try disconnecting the small wire on the alternator and try the ignition then

also was the alternator a like for like ?

 

check the fuse panel Fuse Nr. 16, and the engine wire cable before the windscreen
key position 1, and moving that cable, when you hear the clicking, your car is can start
