OMG How stunning is this.
This car is stunning. If my lottery numbers come up this car will be mine (amongst others).

A car is only worth what somone is willing to spend so we will see wont we
I remember when you could buy an rs500 for 8k and an rs200 for 12k
there is always one car that raises the bar
The White 16i is very well known in the rs club it used to belong to the 16i registrar, I've seen it in person a few times and it's an incredible car but as said above with under 2k on the clock it's only ever going to be a very expensive ornament
As are most of the other low miles MINT rs cars
the value is from collectors who like to own the best example of there favourite RS cars
This car will only be bought by somone who wants to show the car in concourse etc or just somone who has a nice big garage and like to collect cars
It may seem expensive but ask anyone who has ever tried to build a concourse car how much it costs
Definately easy to spend far more than that bringing an average car to mint conditions, and then you still dont have the low mileage side of it so it wont be worth the same.
Silly money as a day to day car of course or even an occasional use weekend car, in that context its not even vaguely worth it, but as Paul says if you are a collector and really want the best you can find, that sum wouldnt put you off.

IIRC all the new parts to build a typical hatchback will generally retail at about 200K if bought seperately, so you dont need to be replacing a big percentage to do 20K, and thats when the parts are still available new at retail money, not 20-30 years later with scene tax added onto any newoldstock available.

+1..... I've only just started with the 3dr and omg the price of things when you can get them is bonkers.
deffinately! i've only replaced nuts bolts and a few bits and pieces and I must have easy spent a G at the parts desk. Average screw is about 80p to Ł1! Components can be properly dear if you can get them.... If you can buy a car like that or concours, its essentially a bargain... But i'd be forever wanting to take it for a blip..... Perhaps buy 2!

I personally think you'd need to be completely off your head to buy a RS1600i for this sort of money. It's a nice car and I'm not slating it in any way but it's FAR to much money in my eyes.

Very nice cars. Reading chips post its amazing when you think about it how much it costs with cars ain't it, always hidden costs too which you forget to budget for, like gaskets, trim clips, brackets etc.
I don't think a RS500 or a RS200 are a good comparison on a RS1600i. Both are alot more special than this.

Think about it tho , the 16i is 26k , imagine if it was a 500 60k a 200 120k
I havent tried to put the 16i in the same leaque as the 500 or the 200 , i have priced it in respect of it being one of the best in its class ,
The top of the tree in any class of car will see some people say it stupid money and others getting there wallet out
Its all about what floats your boat and if you want the best there is then you will pay for the pleasure of owning it

I've never understood these big price cars that you can't drive as they would loose there value but as you say it's about what floats your boat.
I bet the white one will get bought by someone who hasn't won the lottery but as Paul said, just wants to buy the best of what is available.

I did say i would buy it amongst others so it wouldn't be the only car i would buy and i dare say it wouldn't be the best but if you had the money why not buy a collection of cars that you have always liked?

+1.......
Im glad you said that i was just tittering at some of the replies.
Remember this is Passionford & has no links with reality.
'Heres your cheque for 10 million sir how big a house are you going to buy to house those supercars' 'Im not its a 16i for me'

How I read that was I think you misunderstood rod's point, and its not that he thinks you shouldnt spend so much on an old ford, but more than if you win the lottery you would have more exciting plans as well to focus on instead.
Ie the 16i might be on the list, but surely there should be a mclaren f1 or something in front of it.

Plus , however Rod was thinking he has proved that even with a large amount of cash he personaly has spent it on an old ford , I bet he could have bought somthing with a little more street gred so realy there is still irony in his reply
