What about using the idiot-light panel above the clock and fitting the switches into that?

I have an XR4i one that goes all the way across but if your door-ajar display has been removed it could look "right".

You would need the early version with 6 lights in it and then simply drill out the plastic "very carefully as it's known to be as delicate as a butterfly's wing" and then simply insert radon push switches into the panel

That's why I suggested the early full-width version - like Dojj says, it had 6 lights in it so should be able to take 4 switches and telltales, or you could use switches that illuminate when active?
