Default linking another comp to internet

Hi all

I am currently with virgin media and have a 50mb line and a superhub installed in the house. Behind the house is an annex which the landlords currently rent out to another couple and part of the deal is that they use our internet for a small fee each month. At first things were ok as the wireless was being picked up at around 2-3 bars so was still useable for general web surfing etc which they do whereas i use my pc mostly for online gaming and the occasional browse of the web. Now though they can barely pick up a decent or stable signal from the superhub and speaking to virgin today on the phone, they want ME to pay £99 just to get the superhub moved to a different part of the house!!!

To sort something myself i have ran a 40m cat 5 ethernet cable from the superhub in our house, out of our bedroom window and into their annex as i was told it should connect with no issues and setting up but their is nothing going through. It is picking up on the "network and sharing centre" as "unidentified network" and it appears to be connected as such but there is still no way of accessing the internet. Virgin have effectively fobbed me off saying "it might be their laptop" I have tried connecting their laptop into the cable i run to my pc tower and the same results come up. After a quick look on the net the only thing i can see is that virgin only offer 1 ip address per household????????????

i'm a bit confused with it all so if anyone has any advice that would be grand

Thanks

Hi m8,

This is a tricky one, you could try changing the channel the superhub uses for wireless and see if that improves, basically the unidentified network needs to be recognised as a "Home" network in order for it to work properly. Is it vista or windows 7 they are running ?

both computer and laptop are running vista (i know it's poo) had a mate over yesterday to confirm it wasn't the cable as his laptop connected first time within 20 seconds so now have to wait until they get their laptop back as they took it to a shop to get looked at

had some issues with sky when i hooked my pc up to the internet for the first time when it was new

can't rememebr what i did but buggering about with the buttons sorted something out, but i think it was a case of the internet thing not being connected as it wasn't recognising there was an actual connection

the network and settings bit shows my computer connected to the box which is then connected to the internet

in my case the computer wasn't connected to the box so it was a case of simply clicking stuff to make it all work

the other thing you may not have tried is resetting the hub?
