Default Mk3 Gsi Astra...

Got the chance to buy a Gsi rolling shell (minus engine, box and front brakes) in good condition for not a lot of money and I'm trying to decide if I should go for it or not. My plan would be to put a saab turbo lump in it for some 'cheap' fun.

Should I go for it? I have 3/4 other projects too but can't resist the lure of a bargain car lol. Anyone done the conversion on here and got advice?

'Apparently' it's all solid. Will need to have a good search for tinworm, my uncle has a bodyshop so not much of an issue but I can't be arsed with a full resto

My mate is selling it cheap after he's pinched the bits he wants for a corsa.

Shame it got gutted for a Corsa to be honest, always thought the GSI was a decent looking thing.

Do you need any more cars though? Honestly?

depends how cheap it is, as youve said you have 3/4 other projects on the go, and good luck selling an astra with all the important bits missing......

Loved the look of mine, bright red,17" black alloys, very solid car rusted a 1/10th of what any j reg escort ever did.
Was 100% reliable as well, agree on the handling bit though, was poor.
Overall an excellent car, would love another with either v6 or turbo in it,perhaps a sorted xe would be nice.
Really easy to work on and bits are pence.

The looks are the main thing for me, always liked them. The 1 I'm looking at is dark blue...

Thought before about the saab turbo conversion so whilst the chance is there...

I've got a late phase 2 GSi. I binned the ecotec after I blew it to bits and fitted an XE, stripped it out and kick the shit out of it on track and it goes really well. Surprised a few cars. There is only a few bits of surface rust...one on the tailgate where the rear wiper went and a bit on the passenger door, everywhere else is solid
