Default Mondeo TDCI power loss and temprature guage fault.

Hi,
I have a mondeo TDCI on a 04 plate. After about 6 miles the car suffers power loss (limphome mode) and the temprature guage drops out to cold.

A couple of times this has happened the engine warning light has come on, although that has ow cleared and the fault is still happening.

If i turn the ignition off and restart he car the fault clears and runs normally and the temprature guage returns to normal. However the fault then happens more frequently.

Durng the temprature guage drop the heater still blows very hot, could the water pump be the cause of this fault?

Thanks for your help.

There are a pair of thermostats on the TDCI which play up, the regular pump thermostat and what's known as the oil cooler thermostat.

It could well be the temp sender sending a faulty reading, which in turn triggers the car into limp home mode. I'd get the fault codes read if I was you, see if it helps pinpoint the problem before spending on random things.

Not true at all. It stores the fault codes until they are deleted.

Ok Dan i'll give it a whirl. Just been out looking at it again, I felt the pipes either side of the water pump, red hot one side of the pump and cold the other side. Could be a tell tale sign.

However your advice is sound why spend money on something if its not the problem. I wiil do the diagnostic first.

Found out it was the Cylinder head temperature sensor (Fordmain dealer part no.1557880). I changed the sensor and cleared down the fault car is now running normally.

Thanks for the help Dan.
