Default 4x4 estate for 2k?

I'm looking at shifting on the focus me and my dad share and getting a estate as its not big enough for trips to the tip!

I quite fancy a 4x4 estate as I have recently moved in with the mrs and it's off the main road on a new build estate that has been totally undriveable for the past two winters.

What options have I got? I thought about a a4 tdi but they seem to have 200k + on them! Others I have seen are volvo v70, skoda octavia 1.8t and subaru's of various types. A freelander diesel could also be in with a shout but I'm worried about the IRD's playing up.

Anyone got any other idea's?

Gavin.

Do these suffer from gearbox or transferbox problems?

Are they sensitive with tyres like the volvo's?

I worked at skoda for 8 years as a tec. In that time I have never seen a problem with any of the running gear on the 4x4 the 1.8t engine has some small problems mainly with sensors nothing major. Just check for full service history including rear diff oil and diff filter changes and make sure the waterpump is working as they can fail.

jaguar x type maybe?

i've heard a few expensive horror stories regarding the volvo awd so would leave alone. I'd be deffo getting a skoda octavia, or maybe a passat syncro, but they only came as 2.8 v6 so may be a bit pricey on fuel.

I'd get a scoob, legacay impreza or forester, I'd imagine all will be within budget if there older models, maybe avoid the turbo ones as there more likely to of been thrashed, but na ones are less likely IMO

I have already got a 08 reg Citroën relay for work. I can't be arsed with emptying it everytime I go to the tip or go food shopping!

A v6 might be a bit too juicy because if the weather is bad I will use it for work. Tbh the skoda octavias are looking perfect for what we need.
