Wrapping`a car DIY?
Anyone done it with much success?
i've bought a hilux surf with poor paintwork/laquer peeling and just wondering about wrapping it. seems like £200 will buy enough vynil off ebay to do it!

dont buy off ebay, not the best, and what ever the paint finish is like underneath, will show through when you put the vinyl on,
so if laquers peeling, the vinyl wont stick properly and look worse than the paint

Made it all worth it when we went to a show, drove past a stand with a load of old military vehicles on it and some old bloke was desperately waving his arms around thinking we should be on there with them
Right, this is what i've got:

Options are,
1) wet and dry the laquer down and re laquer it, unsure if it'll look ok over such a large area though.
2) wrap it, dunno on colour, white maybe?
3) nato green like the volvo above
4) matt black, but i think matt black looks shit so i'll give that a miss.

hire the spray gear and spray it yourself. Mate did this, got a decent amount of paint on, he went with a non metalic, then when hardened he flatted it back and polished it.
Ok, up close you could tell it wasnt perfect but looked ok stood a few foot away. He sprayed it outside mid summer. Was him under £200 iirc.

Amazing!! That looks epic!!!!
What he said. I do this for a job. It's a confidence thing more than anything, and you need to do it a few times to get the hang of it. It's not so much who wraps it, it's more the material, and i swear by 3M, it ain't cheap either. You would need to do the body work underneath for a smooth finish on the vinyl
Also that truck looks like it could be a bitch to do!!
Your better off rubbing it back and getting a painter to do a cheap blowover if its only a smokeabout!
If its just dry laqure and a bit off peel it may be worth spending the £200 on getting it properly buffed to save the original pain rather than wrapping over the top of it.
I recently had a L200 done that have faded to pink and was in a real bad state paint wise.
