Default Mk 5 2wd to 4wd conversion

Hi all

My mate wrote off his Mk5 RS2000 4x4 :-(

If he gets another shell, for a 2WD, can you remove the running gear from the 4x4 and put them on the 2WD as a bolt on job?

Someone mentioned to me that you can but I doubt it.

Thanks

the shells are different. on the 4x4 the spare wheel well is shallower giving room for the transfer box and shaft. it mite be possible but i think it would be quite hard to do

It tells you the differences here, the wheel well as mentioned above and a different fuel tank.

from what i was told before the rear axle mounting points are different aswel and you would have to weld in the 4x4 ones
