Default puma heater controls not working?? got one today, but not gen ford??

im sure ive read on here before about this, but cant find anything!

basically it seems that on my puma, it doesnt matter if you turn the heater to hot or cold, it stays the same temp - about half way at a guess...

what needs to be done to make it cold when you turn it to cold, and hot when you turn it to hot lol??

its a common thing, but i cant remember

cheers all

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISA...:B:BCA:GB:1123

got it today, and nowhere on it does it say ford! the one on the car has white writing on it that says ford, so have been sold a pattern part??

its also not the one in the pic as it doesnt say AP on it....

it should come in the box with ford on it.

FINIS 1714716 and 7N21 18495 AC is the later part number and engineer number youll find.

Should still come in the right ford box

I replaced the hcv on.my wifes mk5 fiesta. I bought a cheap non ford one. its been on the car now for over a year. I know that sometimes when the heater controls have been turned to cold a few timesthe heaters have still blown out hot air.

This has only happened a few times.

If it hasn't got Ford ANYWHERE on it then its not genuine....

I sell (well try not to) non genuine 1's and they are shite...!!!! I also sell (prefer these as they actually work for more than a nano second) genuine 1's reboxed by a company called ADL and never had a problem...

cheers lads, might give them a call!

it deffo has 7N21 18495 AC in white marking written on it, but i would expect to see the ford logo either in the plastic casting or printed on it like the one on the car at the mo.

it does have some cast markings that say PPE - PA - GF30 2

Also the box it came in is covered in fragile tape, but underneath i can see stickers that say:

'new type 2011'
'the original brandm OES original equipment spares'
'heater valve 1451981-0'

i cannot see ANY ford markings on the box either!

mmmm sounds like a copy to me.

on most ford parts the engineer numbers and ford logo are embossed in the moulding somewhere, not printed on numbers.

i would give ford a ring first, ask them if they would produce one without a logo.

I too am having this problem on my mk5 fiesta , I have changed the heater control valve and the control switch panel and it is still blowing cold air
There is power up to the hcv
Do you need water runnig through the hcv to make the valve work ? i would not have thought so with it being controlled electrically if i hold the hcv off the car you can blow through the unit ,as soon as it it connected to the plug the valve closes and you cannot blow through it ,but does not open again when you turn the heater switch to hot in the car , should this be able to open while the unit is not connected to the water pipes ?

What else could the problem be if it is not the hcv and the switch panel

yes the valve should open with no water going through it, if you have the ignition on and plug one in it should move when turned from hot to cold.

i still have the one i bought unsued as i tried the above method and it still wouldnt move.

so i got another control panel from the scrappers and fitted that and the original valve is still working fine... but at least i have a spare

I thought it might be the control panel after the new HCV still did not open when i turned the switch from cold to hot , so i went to the scrappers yesterday for a new control panel and the valve still does not open when its connected
There is deffo power going to the plug as I have tested it

Im baffled ,as its now had hcv and switch control panel

There's 3 pieces to the puzzle with this common failure. HCV, Control Panel, and Heater resister. Sounds like there's only 1 u haven't tried....

ok, i had a look at mine earlier and with the engine running i put my meter across the plug that goes on the valve and the most i seen while turning from hot to cold was about 2.75V. works fine tho and deffo goes from hot to cold.

ive packed away the spare valve so cant check it on that.

I have changed the hcv and the control panel , the hcv is pulsing when heater is halfway , and if i leave the 2pin plug off the hcv i still dont get hot air , when the plug is left off this leaves the valve open so hot water should be passing through the valve , all pipes are hot up to the valve , although the bottom hose doesnt get as hot as the top hose , ive flushed and reverse flushed the the heater matrix but i am still not getting hot air out of the heater

Pretty sure its not the thermostat as the temp gauge is working to half way , it never goes higher though no matter how long i leave the car running the fan does not kick in either.

If it was water pump failure would the car not over heat?

Out of the blue the car suddenly started blowing hot air from the vents , but only when its being revved , at idle the heater goes back to cold , so i think the waterpump may be at fault
