MFI Injectors
series 2 rs turbo
Problems with the car caused me to buy a new set of injectors (last October
methinks). Checked the spray pattern when I put them in as a prior set of nos injectors were a bag o s---.
All seemed fine.
Car still causing problems so only started now and again and never left garage.
Now we have one of the new injectors spraying nowt and two others leaking.
Replaced the non working one.. all spraying ok now but two still dripping.
Every time I take the injectors out to see what they are doing and put them back in, the car starts and runs fine.
Leave it overnight and it won't start worth a monkeys, I'm assuming because of all the excess fuel from the leaking injectors?
Could the fuel distributor be causing this problem, already swapped out four that are knackered and only one spare left.
The fuel pump, fuel filter, pressure regulator are all new as is every sensor on the engine.
This driving me nuts as it's had new everything I can think of thrown at it
and still the soddin thing defies all logic

Thanks for that..
not what I wanted to hear at 120 a set and never turned a wheel.
Does lying idle screw the injectors up or are they all 'old stock'
now!
New pump seems fine and accumulator seems to keep pressure.
Bought a 'new' accumulator but it has an outlet on the bottom
where the original has a screw. Bought a few use ones but since petrol
pissed out when I took the said screw out, assumed the diapghrams
were goosed?

Tried 3 sets of injectors now. All seem to spray nicely but leak when the system is pressure(pump running).
Since I can't see all the injectors being goosed, I'm wondering if the fuel pressure is too high?
New fuel pressure regulator fitted but then I suppose that's been lying on a shelve for donkeys years.
Nothings been tampered with on the fuel distributor but I'm wondering if old age or a knackered sensor/wire could cause it allow excess pressure.
Trailer job to a decent tuner methinks but a pita as certainly none that could be called local:-(

Thanks for that.
Bit baffled as to how the set up has changed as the metering head
has never been touched.Wear & tear I suppose but been of the road for 11 years.
Since the system pressure should be 5.65-6 bar and the injectors open at 3-4 bar..
how does this compute as Spock would say??? puzzled

torch the bastard more like!
Tore apart/ destroyed a metering unit and the whole flap
and crap to get a better idea of what occurs..
none the wiser. Flap and roller for plunger on fuel distributor
.. only way I can see to alter anything means changing the mixture..
or somehow making the plunger stick out more.
Destroyed a fuel distributor too:_)))) & feckin none the wiser
unless the muppets that had the car for months managed to bend
something by stupidity.

Cheers Stu,
I've read them all upside & backwards over the last year, taught me a lot
and tearing a whole unit apart let me see it all in the flesh.
Just wish I could see the damned thing in action!
Have one more 'spare' unit & wondering if it's worth swapping the whole
unit as opposed to just the metering head.
As an aside, 4 supposedly working metering heads spewed fuel from the underside
as soon as they were plumbed in. Unfortunately not easy to see where it was
leaking from when in situ

+1 meterhead is in charge not the injectors, they are basically a hose they only squirt out what the tap (meterhead) tells em too its not efi which pulse and thus only spray when needed as told by the ecu
OK, a different tack.
Is there anywhere that could check out the metering head?
I'm sure as shit not paying a fortune for a recon. one to find the
pig still won't go and seems mad to go borrowing a trailer to tow
it somewhere, pay circa 160 squid to be told the metering unit
is goosed.
