with what you have listed there i think it would be hard to diagnose and/or help you out without actually seeing the engine in person.

best bet would be to wait untill you pick the car up and maybe ask your questions then, if its running a zetec block it will have the dipstick at the front left of the engine (as you look at it) the engine size will be cast into the block roughly centre half way up.

if you are compitent on the tools though none of what you said is a major issue.

hi the car has not been run for about 8 months do you think that it is a good idea to take off the head and have a look inside to check if there is any rust.

thanks

I would check the entire underside, round sunroof, fusebox, battery tray etc etc before looking inside the engine for rust

Ah thats good to here, would hate for someone to go into a rs turbo not knowing potential pitfalls, it was when you said it was given you

How was it running prior to not getting used? was it running lumpy then or is it since its not been used?

I really should read slower at times, did previous owner say it was always lumpy?

if your in it for the long haul then it'll do no harm for you to strip the whole engine as you said your not entirly sure what build it has. it may not be anything major but at least you will know more than just guessing.

do you know what management its running, chip etc?

when you can get some pics up
