Right chaps need a bit of help am currently running 15 psi with the following mods on my series 2, piper cam & pulley, stage 3 turbo, stage 2 gasflowed & ported head, grs front mount with twin 9" spal fans, turbosystem's chip, k&n, magnex exhaust and bailey breather. Rebuilt not long ago with oversized pistons etc, question is i want woodford garage to turn the boost up am i right in saying 20 psi would be ok?? everything has been checked and all is in good order, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks rick i was thinking 18-20 but wasn't sure, if the metering unit is good and can fuel enough for 20 psi could it be turned up more or is that about the limit?
Its not really something a forum can tell you mate. Once your tuner has it on the dyno all will become clear, as long as your metering unit can supply enough fuel and you don't run into det 20psi or there abouts doesn't sound unreasonable.

Ok thanks rick, rob all i wanted was a rough estimate m8 and dont want to run anymore than 18-20 anyway and the metering unit was a fully reconditioned uniit 3 years ago so 10 psi low boost and 20 psi high boost it is all being well thanks rick and rob
apprantly stg3 hybrid can boost to 27-28psi feuling is issue
im running 5th inj for more fuel, stg1 15psi stg2 20psi
hopefully turning stg2 to 23-4 psi
some say you'll need steel rods go over 240-250 bhp

It is being set up thanks and i already know it will kill the engine it has been set up for 15psi at the moment, and ben still dont know how to put pics up lol james is doing it at woodford and testing it same way jano does out on the road, engine was rebuilt 3 years ago running oversized pistons and i think they are standard rods and its a standard ford head gasket, the history and resto photo's of the car is unbelieveable it had a 4 page spread in rs owners club mag in 2008 you may have seen it in torquay and my other white one is also still in torquay lol will have to meet up m8???

Standard pistons will do over 300 bhp.
Rob,
Rob- thats good to know. Esp when alot of ppl are keen to change pistons as their 1st engine mod!
Chaffe - i understand your point, but surely a datsun rots just as badly?

My old S2 was running 215bhp (flywheel) at 20psi set up at Harvey gibbs it had bayhoo chip scorpion exhaust and proalloy intercooler everything else was standard and I never had any problems over the 4 years it was like that.
Ill start again then , whey would u risk standard pistons with over 300bhp, and why go through the trouble of maching the pistons to take an aftermarket rod , dont understand
You wouldnt, but it saves £300-£400 pounds and if you want sub 300bhp but more than say 240bhp then maybe you would just change the rods.
I didnt, but some might... It's quite a saving.

Nothing wrong with standard pistons, nms rods (i think they are fardon) are floating pin so you don't need to have the pistons machined.... like me.
BUT if you are overboring you will need new pistons any way, and at £350 you may as well spend the extra and get forged pistons i agree.
