Default Just killed my T3!! UPDATE - Not a snapped shaft! Pics!

Was flat out in 5th (24-27psi) at around 6k rpm for a few minutes on and off, heard a funny sort of noise from the engine bay and a puff of black smoke from the exhuast followed by no boost! lol
I could hear the turbine wheel spinning (against the housing) every time I opened the throttle but no boost pressure at all so I'm gussing the shaft has snapped?
Compressor wheel has loads of movement in all directions now too!

Was a Stage 2 T3 (.36/50) and has done about 15K since new over the last 2 years, I ran without a dump valve.

I'm guessing I have just been pushing it too hard (well, running it flat out if I'm honest! lol) and heat has killed it?

UPDATE - Seems the turbine wheel has fallen apart! lol

The GT2560R is also known as the GT28R, as fitted to Nissan S15's, but yeah should spool up nicely and flow well too!

Made 231bhp @ 19psi at my last visit to APT, I dare say at 24psi it would of been closer to 240bhp but yeah it's only a .36/50 from Turbo Technics!
I really was pushing it! lol

Sorry to hear that karlos.

A turbo for 1000 pounds sounds expensive to me - no longer a semi-budget build

I do think the 60 trim / .48 exhaust would be nearly as good as the GT28R.
(If I had the extra $$$ I would probably go with the GT28R as well.)

However, with the boost levels you run I would have a dumpvalve installed.
I know guys in the UK like the sound of turbo flutter, but that is terribly hard on turbos.
The Bosch type plumb back systems are quiet, and greatly extend turbo life, along with better spool between gear changes.

Just my opinion of course.

Keep up the good work!

It is expensive but thats what they cost in the UK
It would be a shame to fit a DV but if it really is going to make a difference then I will?!
Never read anything definitive on them, some say fine without them others say they are a must for high boost applications

How many miles did you do with it? I think mine was just down to heat, the AVC-R really works it hard to try and hold 24psi at high rpms! lol

55 trim on the .36 turbine max, more flow 60 trim and .48 turbine ,
60 trim more power slower turbine speed last longer lol

My 55 trim .48 is awesome, and lasts as long as my engine so I don't see the need to go any larger on the comp wheel?

your right mate its only 2 mm [there abouts]but you know what a restictor makes to a turbo ,thats why i only stick a 60trim in there if you got to machine a housing why not

its just a bit more bhp [pub talk]

I was running it well out of the efficiency islands mate thats for sure, my AVC-R was hitting 88% duty to try and hold 24psi past about 5k rpm! This is of course why it's broken! lol

Yes mate, was a Turbo Techincs Stage 2 as per their website but without cut back blades.

S152 Ford Escort RS Turbo Stage 2
Power output 160-220 BHP
Boost 10-23 PSI
7° cutback T3 turbine assembly
360° screwed thrust bearing

Karlos abit off topic but did the AVC-R used to boost spike or would it hit peak boost and hold? Also how do you have it plumbed in...? Off the comp housing or the inlet manifold?

It will do whatever you want as it has a programmable curve (boost vs rpm), but of course I tapered it in nicely to remove any spike as this just causes wheel spin! lol
Plumbed in in place of the Amal valve so comp housing to actuator.
