cosworth breather advice needed

Default cosworth breather advice needed

ok folks ,

just looking for advice really , purchased fudgeys old pro alloy tanks for my cossie build , not 100 % sure on the fitting sizes ect till they arrive ,

but my question is this ......

what would be classed as the minimum amount of breather ports would you need for a 450 hp yb ?

and as a second part to the question , where the best loactions on the block to have currently i have a fitting welded in the sump , and breather returns either side in the block ,

the rocker could be drilled for an additional breather , but im looking for a super clan bay , and a very minimal look


so ideally the less the better but still allowing the motor to perform ....


anyone ?

You want -

-12 from the inlet side of the block, where the standard kidney box is, push in adaptor availible from GGR that takes -12 hose onto it.
-10 (IIRC) from under the exhaust manifold
-10 to atmosphere
-8 return to the sump

Don't think the 2wd sump has an oil return standard like the 4x4 though, so you'll need a -8 welded there.

As for the cam cover breather, i was told there no real need for them unless you are using the car hard - i.e. racing it or its big bhp.

As above beef, the one on your sump will be return

Just remember one thing when doing breathers,,, under oil level, return, above oil level, breather

So kidney can, exh side back of block to breath

One return to sump and a atmosphere off the breather, perfect

Of if you want a clean bay use a wrc tank

I Welded a returnpipe on the turbo oilreturn for my breather. Works great.

only dilemma i have jim , is the -12 iirc on the sump is in a place thats gave me conflicting opinions ,

its a pro alloy big wing sump , but the fittings not on the wing , its high up on the side of the sump ,


i was told its a breather , but some have said its in the wrong place ect ??

ill get a pic up later of my fitting locations
