cortina gearbox problems...

Default cortina gearbox problems...

Hi

i am having problems with a cortina where i cannot find reverse gear and wondering if i may be missing a trick?

its a 4 speed manual gearbox attached to a 1.6 pinto engine, all the forward gears select no problems but i cannot seem to find reverse?

Any help

Try it with the engine off, is it any better ?, you may have clutch drag, or a bent/damaged selector fork for example.

have you taken the gearstick out and put it back in the wrong way round?

i personally havnt had the gearstick out as ive just bought the car, all the other gears work ok

unscrew it and check it's in the right way, there's a grove one one side that fits round a block in the selector housing when you push the stick down, easy to put it in the wrong way

found reverse, i had to move the stick across to near 1st then push down firmly and across again
