Default 1978 Taunus (Cortina) TC2

Hi guys,

My name is William and I'm kind of into old rearwheeldrive cars, and a nice old Taunus crossed my path and I decided to buy it

Even though the previous owner rattle canned it matte black, the interior is spotless and it's solid underneath, so a nice little project car !

It's currently running an lpg system on the stock 1600 engine. I have a sierra 2.0 engine that I want to swap into it, anybody here done that conversion ?

If they r both pinto engines it just a case of taking one out swapping mounts over and putting it back in

As said pretty much just swap over, could think about a 5 speed box at same time ?
The LPG will need adjusting though most likely for best idle, depending on type.

If both are Pintos the down pipe needs to be longer to reach if my memory serves me well, due to the taller motor

It's 16mm difference in height, so you'd have to be really unlucky for the 1600 one not to fit.

unfortunately it's not the pinto engine but the dohc injection one, with ofcourse a 5 speed gearbox

will that be a straight swap, or will I have to fabricate my own engine mounts ?

how can it be one big headache ?
I got it running on a pallet, so wiring is a piece of piss, I know how to weld, so engine and gearbox mounts are also no problem ?

I don't want the 2.0 dohc for all the go, mainly for much better economy

mainly interested in the propshaft, if that one will fit without modification !

did you read the topic ?

I'm using a 2.0 dohc sierra engine with its own 5 speed gearbox.
So NO, the box doesn't stay...

oh sorry, thought you meant the 1600 had a 5 speed.

its not a big job to get a propshaft's length changed and balanced so get some quotes once you know the length you will need

Well, I went ahead and started the engine swap.

So far the only thing that looks slightly the same is the gearbox mount

she runs, and brilliantly too !!!

ended up making my own enginemounts, gearbox mount and driveshaft. Fitted a volvo 245 radiator beneath the slampanel, no room for the old taunus one.

Managed to do a short run up to 178 km/h on gps, and the driveshaft didn't start wobbling etc
I've used icehockypucks as enginemounts, but they are a little bit too stiff for a daily driver. Gonna try to find something that's got a little more "give" in it. Also retro fitted the lpg system, just waiting for a 60mm diameter lpg mixer to fit in the intake piping.
