Question REV counter help

Evening all, when out in the S2 today ive noticed that when going along at a steady speed (say 60) the rev counter seems to be fluctuating a little bit? not bouncing all over the place but just going up and down between a couple hundred revs? also have recently had the old back lights flickering issue which a mate noticed when following me down to Central day but ive cleaned all connectors etc and they are working fine again now could my rev counter issue also be down to dodgy connector/earth etc

Matt

Mine is also dodgy, seems sort of 'sticky' and doesnt move up or down smoothly, pretty sure its not reading the correct revs either.

Still not managed to sort this issue but after more research im now being told it could even be something as serious as gearbox issue
going to go check all wiring on that circuit plus earths etc to rule that out

anyone heard/know much of these issues ?

bugger all to do with gearbox, who ever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about, both are mutually exclusive
it's more than likely an old wiring issue with an earth that is causing issues.
if it misreads throughout the revs there is an adjuster under the rev counter to correct the reading multiplier (handy for changing to efi when you only have a single supply from coil pack).
do what i did and buy a stack one, mucho coolness

yeah second that it will be a dodgy earth. turn on your lights and see if the tacho moves when its ticking over normally. my red one used to go up by 500 rpm when you switched the lights on, and used to go up when you used the leccy windows too.

cheers for replies, yeah revs do drop a little when lights turn on or electric windows operated etc, cleaned up all earths and connectors today so will take her for a spin tommorrow, see how she is, my old man said it could also be the inline supressor thats in the green wire from coil that sits near inner passenger wing possibly breaking down these apparantly supress the electrical noise/interferance from radio etc which in turn stops the rev counter going nuts !
