It's nothing to do with more room for more air, the train of thought is that the inlet trumpets in the plenum are so close to the cover that they get a shrouding effect, moving them away by means of spacing is thought to overcome this.
More air does not mean more flow.

So Tabs would i benefit having one on my stage 1 3dr..has in dont want more power but would it be more efficiant??

well thats what a engine builder told me when i was thinking of geting a hart inlet manifold said i did not need it and that was why

He told you wrong, no where near as simple as that(what he told you), any angle the air has to turn tends to slow it down, the sharper the angle the more it slows, the closer the trumpet to the cover the sharper the angle, but there shed loads more to consider in flow terms, a change of cam will upset the perfect set up, as this is very inlet tract length dependant for ultimate results, a shorter tract tends to give better top end, longer better mid range etc, some designs are just bad, like the cossie 2wd and 4wd imo, could have been a lot better, but I think ford were caught on the hop a bit with the whole cossie scene, a lot of the car was crap to be honest as performance cars go, but that was more to do with penny pinching by ford bosses.

I would guess on a fairly std cossie like a stage 1, you'd be hard put to notice anything meaningful, I did have some data on back to back testing, but can't find at the mo, but the general gist was it moved the torque around a bit, bhp didn't change significantly, it did help torque though, and also seemed to smooth out the power curve a bit.
