Be wary of the "Claimed" power, the 170 for example in the real world is more like 160HP, best off buying the ST outright rather than a 2.0 model as the rest of the car is designed for it's performance I.E brakes etc, something you would have to do to a lesser model.

Its a good point but I am 18 and its the best I can get with my money
However I could get a 1.25 fiesta and put a 2.0 st 150 engine in their cost me more money in short but in the long run it costs way to much for me to get a ST, so it would save me a lot on my car insurnace. Or I can get a 2.0L zetec focus and then upgrade that..? Or to top it off I could get a 2.0L subaru impreza gx which only has 125BHP and then upgrade that...? So dont no what to go for help any 1....?

modding a 1.25 with an ST lump wont be cheap, and you will need to tell your insurance and they will rape you for it. If you dont declare it, if you get pulled by a nosey copper he will have you, or worse, you get over excited and plant it into someone, or someone droives into you and your insurance void the policy and you get your arse raped!!

Why not look at something like the MK5 zs, not that bad on insurance, revy fun little motor and you can always mod that after a year, puma lumps or 2.0l conversions etc.

at your age i'd be more inclined to be thinking along the lines of the 1.6 Fiesta Zetec S.

The insurance will be expensive for them both at your age, but the Zetec S will be considerably cheaper to insure than the ST150!

A bit of a 'leftfield' choice for you would be the 1.7L Puma, these are a very good handling cars.
I've had one myself and couldn't beleive just how good they go and handle!

nevermind about the absolute hell you'd be in if you didn't tell the insurance what you'd done (fitting a 2.0L ST engine into a car registered as a 1,25 Zetec foe example) and had a claim...the insurance company will rip you to shreds for insurance fraud and you'll be lucky to get insured again.

dont take the risk and put your fledgling driving career in jeopardy before its even begun

drive a small engined car for a couple of years, build up some no clams bonus and then move on to something bigger!

as my auntie said to me when I was 18 and ideas of big powered cars from the off;

second class driving is better then first class walking!!!

I like it, I would as we all ways to in are family pay with any crash with are own cash if that is all right with the otehr person and not go few the insurance. Ofc if the other person wants to their is nothing that I can do about it. Its pro's and cons, risk vs reward. Most people are saying dont go for it, but on the other hand I no a few clio owners who have been doing it for years... who knows.

Reading your recent posts i would say that you have allot of growing up to do before playing with mens toys, you wont be told how to break the law on here. Dont try to run before you can walk. Accept the fact that insurance companies do not want the business from people your age wanting fast cars, there is a reason for that, they cant handle it. Work your way up kid

Simple answer insure exactly what you drive otherwise it'll bite you in the arse if you have an accident.

That's your opinion and your welcome to it, but we are not all the same and you dont no the 1st thing about me you have just read what i posted, does that really mean you know what I am like... I think not. I know your not trying to have a go or any thing, but I know my limits and I am happy to take the risk on the insurance, among the many many people out their with NONE, their is also many out their who do what I am doing and not claiming for some extra's on their insurance. Some people will just happily take the risk, also on another thread some one told me all the info needed and more for what I am looking for, so please dont claim no one will tell "how to break the law on here". Its happens all the time, the amount of young drivers who change crap such as rims, body work ect... It does not matter what you do it all invalidates your car insurance, no matter how big or small and a lot of people do it.

I have a Fiesta ST, and I love it. But I'm 26 soon so insurance is a little lower for me!

When I was 18 I had a 1.8 16v XR2i. All my mates had their newer cars.. 4k cars and 1k insurance.

I had a 1.5k car, and paid 1.5k insurance. Granted it was a rip-off. But I used to have much more fun than they did in their Astras and shit, and all for 2k less than what they/their dad had to shell out!

Judging by the fact you're even contemplating an ST, you must have a bit of wedge to spend. Get a mk6 ZS tdci. Lower insurance and 30-35 quid a year tax. Not bad at all! All of the mk6's will handle quite well too!

Good luck with whatever you choose. Just make sure it's a Ford.

Just don't crash into me. I already had to claim on my insurance 2 years ago when an uninsured driver hit me.

Also, posting your intentions on a public forum will save the insurance company a lot of work.

Mk6 zetec s tdci is a good shout. It would be considerably quicker than the 1.2s your friends have

Neither buy a 2.0 mk1 focus and mod it!!!! Its cheaper to insure than a 1.25 fiesta and with a few little mods it will eat both the st170 and the fiesta st........

With all mods delcared a 2.0 focus was only Ł900 for the year and on a totally std fiesta mk4 1.25 it was Ł1,200 per year!!!

What a load of bs, for a standard 2.0 to eat st spec, you would need big mods, (a few mods to beat an st 150 or 170 hahaha) an st 150 or 170 with dreamscience remap, would piss all over a standard 2.0, don't kid ur self!!!!!

i didn't say standard, i said with a few mods.
lol a 1.8 focus with a st170 exhaust system makes more torque than a st170 and fiesta st lol and thats a rather small mod on a small engine. a 2.0 with a few mild mods has enough grunt to eat them both while staying cheaper to run. now i am talking about a moded 2.0 vs a std st170 and fiesta st..
