Need to get a new key for my friends Fiesta, it has the Red chip in the key. It wont unlock the door now so think the key has worn out.

Can i get a blank key from ebay, get it cut at local lock smith, and take the chip out of the old key and put in the new key? or does it need to be re-programed?

 

under the little red bit is the transponder mabob for the pats ring around the ignition barell it looks like an old school tablet,
pick the red bit out of the key take the pill shaped thing out and put it into new key and that'll do it ,
any local key cutting shop should have ford blanks

 

oh right cool. Hopefully its not the key barrel itself. as that will be a bit of a nightmare to do.

 

As above about the key, the door lock is a doddle to change out.
