Mine too.........you can get them on ebay but they vary in price, Ł30-40.You cannot get the gaitor alone from Ford, the only way from Ford is to buy a complete center consul!!

There was a guy on here saying his dad was going to make them.

 

Hi, yup thats me, my dad makes tonnes of them for the vaux and bmw forums, i have recently joined here having bought an XR3i 130, saw the post about gaitors wanted so mentioned to dad, he said he can do them if old gaitor is sent for the pattern.

I had one made by a local trimmer, in Leather though not the poncy Ford vinyl

I also had it made a little shorter, as I have a quick shift, thats why my old one was so screwed up..

cant say, the guy kinda "underquoted".... but its pukka and he would want Ł60 to replicate, its double stitched up the seams exactly as std that obviously includes fitting to the console also..

I just fitted a new one got it from ebay took a few goes but im happy with it now.You need a lot of patience and a VERY strong stapler to make a nice job of it.

 

Ah, i have a quick shift too which is probably why its quite bad! Going to pop into my local Ford garage tomorrow to see what they can get!!

I've taken my centre console off due to it not sitting right, only to find its all been butchered underneath

So i've got a bit of a mission trying to sort it all by reading this thread!

Anyone had any experience sorting all this??

 

There is a chap on ebay called 'cosworthshop', i think. But he has them, so i bought one and so did cossie-iain. Its great, looks loads better.

Well where do i start!

Once you take off the main console surround is where the shit starts........

The plastic frame which holds the gaiter has snapped just below where the switchs sit ( this was causing the switch plate not to sit right ) A previous owner realized that he couldnt source a new gaiter from Fords, so modded a fiesta one to fit. This had started to come away from the surround which also made me start taking her apart!

Anyway the gaiter has been bodged quite badly, i'll try & take pictures tonight as this will explain things alot better!

So from what i understand i'll have to find a complete centre console....Which i also believe are going for silly money!

Other stupid things include the 4 bolts that hold the surround to the transmission tunnel, 2 are missing....... They seem to be a special flaring nut?!?!

Again i'll try to take loads of snaps tonight which will hopefully highlight these problems that i want to sort!

Take some pics and go from there. Mine was pretty simple although the only bit that had snapped was the bit under the switches where one bolt goes through!

 

Thats where mine snapped, also the main part of that where the gaiter sits has loads of screws & holes form where the gaiter has been modded to fit!

ive just finished doing mine got it from cosworthshop on ebay it took me ages to fit due to the lack of a decent staple gun looks good now though paid 32 bucks,money well spent,my centre consol was only held in by gravity too all bit missing-also found a yellow sticker stuck under dash pannel saying A/C (ACE14)and found the old ford stickers under the seats barcode etc...saying ace14 too-which was nice anyone else found these?????????????

OH MY GOD Talk about butchered, that looks a right mess!! Mine was nothing like that, sorry. You could try and get hold of a newish console aswell?

I didn't. Don't know any breakers in continental europe and in UK it's hard to get LHD parts. I still have this ugly centre console painted black, ugly cosworth badge insert painted black and parcel shelf cut with a knife to fit :-/ Blah :-(

 

Well i really dont want to cut corners, so i'll just bide my time i think!

 

You schould be able to get stuff you need from some Escos being broken for parts or being stripped.

 

Yeah i've got a few more contacts to try, so fingers crossed!!

Anybody know anything about the bolt i've shown...................I cant find it on Microcat anywhere

 

Escort Cosworth Gearstick Gaitor-As Everyone knows NA from Ford unless you buy
a centre console.So I bought a Mkv RS2000 one (still available).Just remove your old one to use as pattern to cut to length,it is exactly the same!!Fitting the new one
requires a lot of patience removing the old staples, and fitting the new ones,but stick with it and the results are well worth it.I used an electric staple gun,be careful
if you do as escort cosworth centre console don't look too good stapled to your fingers IMO a true enthusiast passes this info on and doesn't make a quick buck
out of it If anyone needs further assistance PM me,part No. available.
P.S the gaitor costs about Ł19!!

i made my own for my last one,[yrs ago]just took the old one apart to make a pattern from, dead easy,am going to make another at the weekend for my current one in cream leather,just nick the wifes/mums sewing machine and away you go,lol doesnt cost hardly anything either this way

 

If I was you mate I would just go down Ford and spunk 70 quid on a new centre console complete, that bit of plastic you holding in your hand is meant t be attatched to the actual console... Its melted to it at the factory, re the Nut theing dunno mate, Never hed mine out, but they look like they expand as the screw pulls throughit at a guess.. I presume it secures the rubber sound proofing surround?? Why do you need new ones??

 

BTW.. I thought it was Gadgets old car... just read another post which confirmed it for me... Nice car, always liked it, Straight Black really is the best colour too

I did think the nut was self tightening, but when i was tightening the cover, they kept popping out! GOD GIVE ME STRENGTH!

I've actually managered to get hold of a RS2000 one, so i might bin the plastic part thats been mollested! and see how it looks!

Don't really like cutting corners though...But seems like i might have too!

 

You sure on the console thing?? I enquired on price a bit back and they still listed it??

Try that company in rallye news, erm www.fordpartsuk.co.uk or summat IIRC ...

 

RAPID system shows 0 consoles in Ford networks :-(

 

As do fordparts uk.............got an email from them this morning!

 

right well i reckon your console copuld be repaired, so the gaitor holder bit is re-attatched to actual console etc... bit of heat some plastic etc... if you were closer id have a look at it for ya ...
