Basically I have a 1.4 mk4 fiesta ghia, I have a key with locking buttons on but they don't work, do I have to install my own central locking or is it just broke? I am a complete newby to this else, Thanks.

The car is likely to have remote CL being it's the Ghia model, if so as said it may be the battery in the remote, or the car does not have remote CL but someone for some reason has brought a remote key or it is not programmed to the car.

Tbh I am not certain the car would have remote CL, so it may be someone has tried to retro fit it but maybe not finished it, to program the remote key is a job for Ford, have you got a "Red master key" as well?

Key only needs programming @ Ford for the PATS (immobiliser)

Remote fob can be learnt without Ford equipment.

You don't need the red key to learn the remote locking. You can learn the PATs with the red key and using key cycle sequence. If you've got more than one key make sure you learn both remotes at the same time, or the other one won't work.

If the remote key sequence doesn't work, try unplugging the central locking module that is next to the fusebox, plug it back in , then try the sequence again.

Sorry it's me getting confused, Tbh I always heard that programming the remote key was a job for Ford as there have been people on here pay stupid money to have it done, but that link you posted shows it's possible!

If the key fob is a 2 button (infra-red type) , it should have a sensor built into the interior light panel (like a shiny black lense)

Can't remember ever not being able to learn the remote on a Ford by using the key sequence method, the old Bosch immobiliser on mk1 Mondeo was a pain in the arse though
