Default Sapphire 2WD shaking @ 3000 rpms

Hi guys,

My '88 Sierra 2WD has a annoying problem.
It shakes/shudders alot when rev'ing to approx 3000 rpms. you can feel it very clearly in the gear-lever. under or over 3000 it is not really that bad.

The engine mounts are standard and only about 6-8 months old.

We tried to replace the gearbox mount with this uprated item, but this only made it worse ?!!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Sierra-2W...item5641caa7ab

Any ideas what this would or could be ?
Maybe I should just replace the gearbox mount with a standard OEM one ?

BR

If there is one bush I wouldn't replace with poly it would be the box mount, whilst in itself it won't generate the vibes it will transmit them into the car shell a lot better than the std mount, which is what I use.
Is the shake/shudder defo this or a misfire ?, as this will cause vibes but different from other vibes.
Try putting the car in gear and with clutch down revving it to 3K, any difference ?, it sounds like a trans vibe, ie worn gearbox bearings, you could also drive at 50 mph snick it into neutral and rev to 3K to see if the vibes are still there, try it with clutch engaged and disengaged.

Knew I could count on you Tabetha!
Vibes are there both with and without clutch pressed down. Makes no difference.
It def doesnt feel or sound like misfire.

check to make sure the exhaust down pipe isn't touching anything! the other thing which I've known to happen the 4 bolts that hold the bell housing to the box to come loose!

Does it happen when the car is sat still and just revved or do you have to be driving.

This happened on my mates saph 4x4 and it was the spigot bearing was missing got no idea where it went but it wasnt there fitted new one and it was sorted.

Hope this helps

Is there any odd noises etc coming from the box ?, when driving in any one gear especially.
I know mine had a bad vibe around 50mph but only in fifth gear, changed the engine mounts and box mount and cured 100%.

@Alvyn
Cheers mate, will check those things.

@Bram
It also does it when car is still and just being rev'ed.

@Tabetha
No odd noises or anything along those lines. Box sounds fine and all gears work fine.
Might try to replace engine mounts as well.
Do you use OEM or uprated item?

Cheers
