Default 4x4 sapphire spring poundage advice...

After finding one of my springs has cracked, I've decided to get some custom springs made as my mate can get some made at a good price. Car is phase 3 spec - approx 350bhp with koni shocks - any advice appreciated

I would go with the Leda Ahmed Bayjoo springs or the AVO chassis dynamic springs, the Ahmed ones will lower the car around 10MM and the AVO are avaliable in standard height but are uprated.

Thanks for the advice, but can get some custom springs made for less than half the price of those, anyone know what poundage standard springs are?

Tried that with Graham Goode and Demontweeks... Just got told they are around 15-20% stiffer than standard.

i dont have konis, so i couldnt tell ya...but i have Gaz coilovers and have 325 front and 175 rears (as advised by others).....but i think the rears are too soft (so i adjust the struts)......i'd say on my set up 300 front and 225/250 rear.....but thats just me....suspension is a twat to sort out as its personal taste..........

Thanks for advice, mine is fitted with Ahmed track spec springs, which people say are supposed to be the best? My cars not running massive power circa 350 bhp and when on boost was like a speed boat lol... Not sure if this is due to cracked spring as only found out spring was cracked after changing wheels - maybe jacking car disturbed the spring? Like you say is going to be an arse to get right...

I can tell you the std 3-dr Springs were 106 lb/in front - 263 lb/in rear, Sapphire 2wd were 118 lb/in front - 286 lb/in at rear.

I've got the 4wd rates somewhere so I'll have a dig

Thanks Mike, but after reading what Pete said he's running on his sapphire, I thought that can't be right as he would be running less than standard on his car at the rear. Anyway... after alot of digging around I've found out that a 4x4 runs 140lb on front and 120lb on rear, also avo coilover springs are 300lb on front and 200lb on rear.

What I can't get my head round is... that would give a 115% increase on front and only 67% increase on rear.

Would make what Pete said about right as you feel your 175lb springs are too soft, so if they were up-rated applying the 115% increase on front that would make approx 258lb

Still not convinced though as everytime I see a sapphire either 2 or 4wd on full chat the back end always looks like it's only a few inches from hitting the road lol....

Fair enough - the figures came from SVE themselves though. Remember there are less active coils on the rear hence the higher rate as well. Those figures were for standard springs not coilovers by the way that I gave you.

Anyway, sounds like you are sorted now

Just don't get confused between people giving you rear coilover ratings as opposed to normal mounted position springs - coilover springs are a different diameter as well on rear

Just as an aside have a look at the manufacturer figures for ther various E30s ( similar sort of car to a Sierra ) in the article below and then see if you think the spring rates I gave you are still wrong
