Default Cams

Ive recently had my car set up on the new engine, i was a little dissapointed with the numbers but it goes better than it ever has. The fueling is wank so the plan is to get it mapped properly on l6.

Is it realy worth fitting a cam ? can only be a ab07 or bd10 as i have no valve cutouts can i gain anything with verniers on the standard cam ?

what would i gain from this if anything ? spec is

pe blue printed 200 block
fresh 2wd head
greys & ut t38
4x4 inlet & spacer

would have been abit more power in there as this was taken on the 9th run

you'll find that once the fueling is sorted, it would make more power.

why couldnt the fueling be sorted?

tbh mate , id be pretty happy with the power you got ,

should be more than enough for a road car *

but id say a abo7 is better than a bd10

edit * you can never have enough !!

BD10 is crap, total loss of bottom end power with only a small gain top end over standard.

AB07, no loss of bottom end and just keeps pulling, well on mine it does.

Not selling Steve, toyed with the idea of valve cutouts and a BD16 but since thats another step further than i really want to take my road car im staying put with the AB07

The cam from Kent is Ł250 for just the inlet, thats for a brand new one.

For some reason they seem to come down in price since Steve bought his but with the VAT increase i should be slightly more

Why not bin your idea of a 200 block, a decent 205 can run 500bhp no problem, and with the money saved get a after market ecu that can be mapped.
That fuelling may look bad, and very spikey but you don't know if PE used any smoothing software on the graphs, that would average the lines out.
A BD10 is not much of a step up from the std BD8, and probably not worth fitting imo.
It is impossible and pointless to go for what you call a "set up" to a tuner who can't alter the chip settings, it's worth a visit though just for a fuelling check.
The last stage 1 msd chip I saw on the rollers made 260bhp but only 220lbft, I suspected though this car had a fault and it was not down to the chip the lack of torque, my GGR stage 1 on the same rollers made 277bhp and 274lbft for comparison, but chip suppliers need to build in a safety factor, as enegines vary one to another, and they'd son get a slating if taking things too far and engines went bang!!!, and chips will NEVER give the same power/best running potential as mapped on the rollers, where everything can be taken to the extremes, and watched for safety.
Why not look into a after market ecu, that way, mapper dependant fuelling will be spot on as will all running be as spot on as it can be for the spec.
I've seen people "lose" power on my fave set of rollers yet when they take the car for a spin they mention how much better it runs and how much faster it is, with seemingly less power, but some are still annoyed at "losing" power over some one else's rollers, of course the extra never was there.
I know the difference it made to my car when mapped on the rollers, as I nearly crashed within 100 metres, as it suddenly had more power than I expected, the off boost power was amazing, I picked up 30bhp for around 8psi LESS boost, emissions were perfect as was fuelling.
What's the engine spec at the mo for this power ?
tabetha

Why would Paul bin the idea of going for a 200 block and revert back to a 205 when there is a 200 block already in the car? What a pointless thing to say!!

As for going for aftermarket management, again why? Believe it or not, Weber-Marelli can be mapped by people who have the software to do so!!

Paul isn't aiming for a 500 bhp spec car so changing the management for your beloved Emerald or whatever you keep bleating on about won't help in any way IMO apart from wasting time, effort and money for not a lot of gain!

Weber-Marelli is a good management when it is mapped well IMO.

Even my arse clenched when they said the price comparing to Newman cams but i didn't want to be influenced down the road of valve cut's etc as i wouldn't stop there and it would be a 600 build by the end of it so decided to be sensible and stick with the AB07 - yep a lot of money for a new cam but i believe it should make the BHP for the money spent with my GT30

Pick a tuner to map your car and do what they recommend

For refrence though, my friends totally standard internally engine did 430bhp with a T4 55lbs siemens and an off the shelf MSD chip. At 25psi IIRC. No cams required for that lol
